I hope by red you mean offroad diesel? I believe you will go through fuel pumps and filters like crazy using it, but that probably still easily offsets the price difference between the two.

I wouldent take a chance using it in on road vehicles. But in anything off highway, there is nothing wrong with.
I'm using it for the seventh year in Yanmar diesel engines on my Dixie Chopper mowers. I've had no problems. If you use road fuel for off road use, you should be able to get Federal and State fuel tax refunds.

We keep a separate supply tank for diesel that is dyed red. It is the same fuel as the diesel we run in the trucks, but the red dye indicates that we have not paid road taxes on it. There is no difference in the quality and no additional fuel filters, etc. Home heating oil is also red, but doesn't have all of the lubrication qualities of the diesel. We choose not to run home heating oil because of that.
Do not run red diesel or heating oil over the road. It will cost you big bucks. Last year the IRS inspector came to our shop unannounced to check our stock tanks, read our signs (which state which fuel is red and which is clear), and stick our truck tanks. I am sure that this will be an annual visit.

Red Diesel (or pink as its called here), is fine to run in offroad equipment...thats what its for :)
It does have a different sulfur content than road diesel.

I use it daily in my tractor and grinder. What dirty water said is right. The sulfur has something to do with lubricating the fuel system better for the harsh conditions of off road equipment. Thats what someone told me:confused: It all burns the same.....

Does any one know how to do this in Ohio?
I tried to do it on my Fed and State taxes this year but couldn't figure out how to do it on the returns.

1*The red diesel and home heating oil is the exact same stuff here.
2*They can check them all they want but they can't enforce it if the tuck wasn't on the road?
I'm vehemently opposed to such over stepping of authority tactics.

How: if it all comes out of the same tank??

I agree with that.
I see all this debate about low and high sulfur as simply myth old wives tales and the passing on of old outdated info.
For one thing I see absolutely no object advantage or purpose in having 2 diesel fuels with 2 different sulfur contents.
All that would accomplish is greater storage expenses confusion and a needless hassle.

Nonono, if the truck can be driven on the road, whether it is on the road or not, if it contains offroad fuel (I always called it farm fuel), that is against the law.
So if a truck is plated and stickered to where it can be driven on a highway, then it needs to contain regular fuel. Now if it's an old truck that's used only on the farm to get from a-b and doesn't have registration, then you're fine using farming fuels.

So would it be the same for farm gas(offroad gas) if they make it? Also, if so does any one use it?
Thanks,

Yes, I put a pint of 109.5 octane leaded racing fuel into every 5 gallons of super unleaded that get used only in the mowers. This fuel isn't pink thou, it's blue and that happens to be the natural color but I'm just saying, I use an offroad type of fuel and it doesn't hurt a thing, it just stabilizes it in my case.
So you could use pink farm (offroad) fuel in lawn mowers and anything you're not driving on the highway. The biggest thing is if you run this fuel then one day the police may stop you and 'stick' your roadtruck and so long the fuel in what you are driving is not pink, there is no problem (but it does get monitored, maybe once in 5-10 years you might get pulled over, more frequently if they see you pump it into the truck lol).
Far as how it works, I know guys ran this stuff years ago and they swore it made no difference.

According to another LCO I talked to yesterday, Here in PA, the can't stop and check the tank of your veichle unless it is over a 1 ton rating(450-4500 and up) He says he has a few f250 pick ups and a few 6.2 diesel blazers that he runs heating oil in and they can not spot check him.
I don't know if hes lieing or not. It don't bother me as we are not in the same market for jobs as each other. Just though I'd post what he said. Use it for what its worth.
