Have you looked at the new model that Stihl has come out with? Their nice. Lighter, more power, and I think they have a lifetime warranty on the clutch. The fuel caps dont have a vent hole, so they dont leak fuel like the older models. My dealer has a special intro price of $200 on them.
----------
ProCut Lawn Service
Lakeland, Fl

ProCut
You might want to see if this is the professional line. That sounds like the price of a homeowner version.
This is a professional model. The price is just for a limited time though. Ive demoed it at my local dealer and think its a nice unit. I dont know what the regular retail price will be.
----------
ProCut Lawn Service
Lakeland, Fl

If you plan on putting a blade on the the trimmer sometime you would be better off getting the FS 85 it has a solid shaft. The FS 80 has a flexible shaft according to the Stihl dealer here. You can put some neat attachments on the FS 85 as well, hedge trimmer, small chain saw head and more are coming out soon. My next trimmer will be the FS 85. Just thought I'd pass this info along.

----------
Richard @ Davis Total Lawn Care
http://townserver.com/dtlc

I have 3 stihl. The oldest is a 1988 fs74,never any problems with running, only bad oil-gas mix.

Pro Cut, what is the number on that new one? Is it the FS55? I was planning on buying another 80 yesterday on the phone and my dealer suggested this one or the 85 because of the attachments. The price on the 55=$199.99, the 80=$279.99, the 85=$299.99. All of these quotes are from my dealer and are for the loop handle, not the handlebar.
----------
Bryan..Heartland Lawn Care
heartlandlawn@hotmail.com

Oh yeah, I almost forgot..I love my Stihl FS80's, and will buy another one depending on my research of the new trimmer. Take DMC's advice and do a search on the subject..this exact issue was discussed a month or so ago, except it was about an FS 85.
----------
Bryan..Heartland Lawn Care
heartlandlawn@hotmail.com

ProCut
I checked out the FS55. It is a homeowner unit. It won't hold up to commerical use.
I thought my dealer told me it was a commercial model, but I must of not heard him correctly or he is just trying to sell them. Thanks for the info.
----------
ProCut Lawn Service
Lakeland, Fl

I bought the FS-85 last year as a replacement for the FS-80 I had stolen. It works great, & I bought the FS-85 cause you can interchange toolss with it, like the chain saw attatchment, or power pruner, hedge trimmer, etc. For $20 more, get the 85.
----------
Smitty ô¿ô
Do any of you have a clinging or clattering sound from the weed eater at idling speed?
Yes, on my FS80's it is like a metal pinging sound or something..Always has done it..I think it is normal..not sure.
----------
Bryan..Heartland Lawn Care
heartlandlawn@hotmail.com

the pinging you are hearing is the clutch.
normal for this model stihl.
the fs80 and fs85 both have a metal shoe clutch, no liner on em like other makes and models, when it is idling the clutch is slightly engaging, and thus this is your noise.
dont worry about it, this is normal sound for those units.

I have owned a FS 80 model for 2 years or so now and no repairs to date. Some of you said that it is not a solid shaft model.Well maby that has cahanged since I have bought mine becouse mine is a solid shaft!I bought a solid shaft becouse someone had stolen my FS 76 from my trailer and my insurance was paying for it so I made sure it was a solid shaft.I prefer the solid shaft over flex shaft(i'm not talking about a curved shaft). But it is cheper to buy the flex shaft. If you don't mind the flex shaft or want to save some money than I would buy a flex shaft. The great thing is sthil offers a life-time guarantee on both styles of shafts so it will not matter if one will wear out quicker than the other.Hope this helps!
P.S. sthil makes great trimmers and blowers I have sevrals trimmers and blowers I have owned for 5 years and the only thing I have had to do to them is normal matinence!
from:Adam
AB Lawn Care
