Something happened today that I've never heard of. While my wife was mowing with the 48" she started to turn around and all of the sudden the mower would not go forward or backwards. The motor runs fine but when the levers are pushed in either direction (forward - backward) nothing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions on what might have happened?

Would have to be in the pump wouldn't it? Belt off, low of fluid, ect.

thanks for the quick replies. Yes, I also think it's in the pumps but both at the same time seems a little unlikely. I checked all belts and all are intact. Anyone else have any ideas.

Be sure to check your hydro dump valves to make sure they are closed.

Look in the reservior, make sure that fluid is over the top of the divider.

I do not know anything about Exmarks, but could you have air in the system from a filter change or something? If not and if not the belt to it, it doesn't look good. :(

Thank you all again, both neutral valves were closed completely and the Mobil 1 in the hydro tank is 1/8" over the divider. I know they say to fill to top of divider but I like mine just a tad over. Anyone else have any ideas. I can't seem to get this off my mind this evening. It is very bothersome to me to have a problem that I can't figure out!!!!!!!!!

I dont know a lot about hydro's on mowers, I only use belt drives. However, I do know a little about Hyros on cars. I am sure the pumps have to run off some type of electrical current. Did you make sure they are getting power.

Scott, generally the pumps on these mowers do not have any electricity going to them. They are full mechanical units that are driven by a belt().

Ssouth, crack one the high pressure lines at the wheel motors and see if you are getting pressure.

I see that you have got a lot of good replies, which are great places to start. If none of those have helped heres some of other places to look. Check the keys (woodruff or square keys on the shafts where the pulleys are mounted on the hydrostats. (2) check all linkages from the control sticks to hydro pumps, also there should be keys on the trunion shafts of the hydros, thats the shaft that your linkage from the the control levers conect to the hydro. It is rare that both hydros would go out at the same time. Since both hydros are not working also you might want to check the key at the engine pulley. Sheared keys will still allow the pulleys and belt to turn, but not at full speed which could affect this system.
Does your unit try to move at all, shake or do anything when you try to move it? If so you are probably looking at hydrostat and drive motor problems. If you do have bad hydros, the drive motors will not be in much better shape also.
Hope this helps.
