gravel walk retaining edging

I'm doing a rotten granite walk and am shocked at the cost of the edging. 4" steel running $6.00/ft (both sides). That's quite a bit more than the stone cost.

Does any body have any options besides steel. Aluminum seems to soft.

Take the same edge restraint used on patios/walkways (Snapedge) and install it with the spikes on the inside of the walk and fill with granite.
