I was just curious as to how many of you guys are going to work on memorial day? We are a little backed up because of the rain here and i really could benefit from having this day worked. I hesitate because i dont want to look to unprofessional. If it were me and guys were working on my neighbors lawn while i was having a cook out on a holiday i think i would be pi@@ed off. So are any of you going to labor on the holiday?

I hate doing it, but i have no other choices, I did work alot this weekend to take care of all my residentials that I do on Monday, so I wouldn't bother anyone who is having a cook out or having people over. But I do have one industrial site, as well as two apartments that need to be done....

I always worked on Memorial Day, atleast part of the day. Commercials only, though. Not this year. Day off!

Mowing residentials on any holiday is not cool at all. rain or no rain.

I would NEVER work Memorial Day, let alone work a residential on a holiday!!! LOL, I consider that VERY unprofessional.
You couldn't catch up on Saturday AND Sunday???
We had rain a couple of days this week also (not complete wash-outs)but we had no problem getting done Friday, we just worked a little longer days. Monday is a paid holiday for my crews, with a three day weekend!

I wont be working Memorial Day either. We had a tremendous amount of rain, but worked a few 12 hour days to catch up. Everyone needs a day off once in awhile.

Nope, no working for us on Memorial Day.
We were behind too with the rain.
Matt worked until dark on Friday, and he pulled an all day on Saturday so we are now all caught up.
Not only do we not like to bother the customers if they would be having any parties or company at their house during a holiday, we also look forward to a little bit of time off too.

Yes, I must work on Monday. The grass does not take a holiday, nor will I. Besides, I am off almost all winter.......Thats my break...As for my customers, they all know that a holiday does not stop me from keeping them on schedule.

I would not be happy if a LCO mowed my lawn on a holiday-nor would I be happy if he mowed my neighbors lawn on a holiday while I was entertaining guests. Have some consideration for others besides your own wallet.
Its rained pretty much straight since Tuesday and I was able to finish all but 8 accounts while dodging raindrops and changing wet sweatshirts. Those remaining lawns will wait til Tuesday.

Only if I had commercial accounts and was behind, would I even consider it. But I'm all residential and would not inconvenience my customers or their neighbors on a holiday. I'll be in the pool myself and would be a little upset if a crew showed up next door to cut the lawn.

Inconvenience or not, the Toroguy delivers a scheduled Monday mowing on Monday. Customers were notified in advance that if they were entertaining guests I would complete on Tuesday instead. None requestaed the Tues. delay. So barring children playing nearby I will complete accounts by 3pm and head out on the lake.
I plan to take wednesday the Fourth of July off. Mowing extra on Tuesday and Thursday. The three day weekends of Memrial Day and Labor Day are challenging. Take the winter off if y'all need a vacation.

I'm 15 and have a whopping 6 lawns this summer. If you can't tell, obviously I don't need to worry about this stuff NEARLY as much as you all,if at all. But,if I was in your shoes I would show respect, courtesy, and professionalism by choosing not to work during Memorial day. Now,choosing not to work all of Memorial day weekend is a different story, that could put you way behind...but on the actual day, don't work.Besides, you probably could use the break anyway.I'd have to say that this post would also apply to the 4th of July as well as Veterans day.

We'll be mowing.
If we pull up to a property, and the owners are entertaining, then they will be moved back a day, otherwise, we have some rain catch up to do.

I will be working but only on commercial accounts and hopefully only half a day then I will work on my own yard. I would not do residential on a holliday , alot of my customers will be enjoying the day off and would not appreciate seeing or hearing someone in their yard. Just my thoughts.

Well i think we'll be taking the day off and just work some longer days here to catch up thats all. I was just curious what all you fellers would be doing. Happy Memorial Day!!!!!!!!:blob3:
We've gotten so much rain in the past week and ½ that we've got to mow. We haven't got any choice, 'cause we're heading south (Tenn.)Thursday, so we've got from now until then to get caught up. Man, we've gone (on some accounts) from a 10 day to 2 week schedule to a 5-7 day schedule from all the rain, boy the lawns look GOOD, I got a couple STRIPE pics, and I'll post them soon. :blob2: :blob4: :blob1: :blob3:
I cut all 38 of my lawns in 3 days (two 13 hr days, one 12hr day) Wed, Thurs Friday. So I'm caught up. :) I will be working my other job at the Supermarket making $36.13 per hour! Its supposed to rain anyway! Back to cutting on Tuesday!
Have Fun!
The only holiday for me, are when it rains!

I will do my commercial accounts tomorrow. I normally do them on Sat, but had to catch up because of rain the first of last week. I could have done them today. But, I do not work on Sundays, and I will not work on residentual on a Holiday. There are no houses within earshot of my commercial accounts that I need to do, so I won't disturb anyone. Even though Monday is a holiday to honor Vets, I will remember their sacrifice.

This holiday is not an excuse for people too not work, sit home and get drunk, it is to remember those who gave their lives for us.I dont know any vets that would get mad for someone putting a hard days work in.

I agree with greenbean all the way. Working on a holiday has nothing to do with lack of respect. Vice versa, NOT working on a holiday has nothing to do with respect.
All my Monday Contracts are Commercial Jobs except 2 and if I don't do them tommorrow I will not be able to do them all week. So I'm working. I have never upset anyone yet. MOst people are understanding and if anything want their lawn mowed on time. At least where I live. Unless I know they are having a cook out or company I will mow homeowners too.
I will be doing a small landscaping job in the morning. The people are friends of my parents and will be out of town. They are having a party Tuesday. After that I am done for the day!:D

Think of the meaning of Memorial Day, it is just another holiday for many.
You might even try something different, go to a Memorial Day ceremony put on by a Veterans organization. You won't regret it!
Honor a VETERAN, take the day off.
After all, the Veteran's of this country fought for your right to be in business for yourself!
Don't take this the wrong way, this is one holiday that strikes close to home!

Not looking forward to it, but gotta do about 4 if they or their neighbors aren't on the lawns, and i'm greatful for the opportunity to express my freedom. Thanks to everyone, I know freedon is not free.

We mow all the Cemeteries in the town I live in and grew up in. Many Veterans are buried in these cemeteries so last week, we kicked some serious butt getting all the cemeteries shaped up for this Holiday. We have NEVER worked on a holiday of importance, eg: New Years, Easter, Memorial Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving, and especially Christmas. If its in the winter and snows, people have to wait..we'll get 'em, but after I have my time...I am not store 24 or wally world. I have been at this game for over 20 years and I still have the 8 original clients I started with. There is one LCO that will mow and blow here any day that ends in "y" , must have gone against someone's grain cause we end up getting calls from angry prople wanting us to take over their maintenance needs.
Thanks to all the Veterans out there...it's pretty cool to be able to go out, make a living enjoying what I do, and know my family and I are safe. Thank You for your sacrafices. Enjoy the Holiday, remember your friends, spend time with the ones you love, go to the parade and say "thanks" to ALL the Veterans, they're the ones who made all this possible.

I, too, am way behind because of tremendous rain. It has rained for two weeks.
What's one more day??????? Put the mowers away! It's Memorial Day! Don't use it as a day-off for yourself, but a day to remember why you can even have your own business.

We worked Memorial Day and I even received a call for an estimate. I did check with my residential customers to see if they had any objections to us mowing. We are so far behind because of the much needed rain.

I didn't work Memorial day. Not that i think it is disrepectful to work on that day. Just that most of my biz is residential and people are cooking out etc and I dont want to disturb them. Besides it was raining all day:p and it rained all nite:p But I had to work my azz off today. I dont see where making a living is disrespectful though. vets sacrificed so we could have freedom to do what the hail we want too
