Hey,
I'm getting 50,000 of these printed tomorrow so I need some feedback. Please all suggestions welcome. I have offered 15% on the flyer for yearly contracts but I'm changing that to 10%. Ive also set a "starting at" price which its my absolute bottom line and 95% of the time will be higher then that.
Please keep in mind these where printed drafts and then I took a picture of them with my digital camera so quality is crap. Colors will be much richer and it will be way higher resolution with gloss finish.

Changes so far:
- 15% to 10.
- "yearly" contracts to "annual" contracts.
Thanks for your time.

Your in canada too, damn I onced priced out full colour flyers and it was astronomical. and borderless to. I would be looking at 50 cents a 8.5x11, cut that in half (I'm assuming) and your going to spend 25cents per flyer just for delivery? $250 bucks plus 14% tax per 1000 half page flyers? I think my printer is a scammer.

Hey Man - They look good. Good layout/design, good colors, good content. I like 'em. The only suggestion I might have is making the "Commercial and Residential" on your business card more like the flier to emphasize/separate it a bit from the list of your services. But again, they look great. Good Luck

Hey,
I am paying about 4.6 cents per flyer. This is for a 5X7 on card stock, gloss, double sided full color. I am ordering 50,000 for $2300. Canada post's maximum size is 6 by 14 so this fits easy where as a full page does not work. A good printer is everything!

You read my mind. That is exactly what im going to do and make the 10% discount on the card a tad smaller. Keep the comments rolling!
Thanks

They look nice but you're breaking a lot of rules that I follow but maybe it works for you.
1 of these rules is don't use your company name as a headline. Here is an adverstising critque that I try to follow, if I hit half the bases I'm lucky though.

I read up some of that link and there are some good suggestions. I find it when companys use like "LAWN CUTTING" as the healine of there flyer it looks cheap. I really want to brand with my flyers which is why I have my company name at the top. Any more comments appreciated.

When I see "lawn cutting" as a headline, I think of a part timer or neighborhood kid.. Something I've done that has gotten pretty good response is to put on advertisements "two free mowings" and naturally people call you just to see what the deal is and you sell them on a "service agreement" (sounds way better than just CONTRACT.) and explain that when you sign up for a new 12 month service agreement, they get the two free mowings. My personal policy is they pay up front for the first service then on the first invoice I take off one mowing and on the second invoice I take off the other mowing. Works really good and most of the time they just sign right up.

I agree. The flyer itself looks great....but get rid of the "lawn cuttin'" thing. It is cheap. If you are going to offer mowing, then offer mowing - as a professional service...not that thar "grass cuttin'". Personally, I like Turf maintenance better.

Love the flyer, don't like the business card.
The company name is too large on the business card and that looks amateurish to me (both the company and design)

The more I look at the business card the less I like it. I don't like the name and phone# type, it's too large and the font is too round compared to the logo. I don't like everything centered and the background picture is too dramatic.
Personally I would choose a font that complements the blockish logo and set the type no larger than 12 points, 10 is average. And maybe desaturate the background.

Hey Xoopiter,
Have you used post cards before or can you attest (not sure if thats the right word) if they work?
I don't know for sure but I thought black and white are equally effective and therefore more effective because you can afford to send out a whole lot more of them. However..... I never considered canada post, I ad-bag mine lately.
How much is canada post anyway? I priced them out years ago but didn't use them (sticker shock if I remember).
Don't get me wrong, full colour make fer a beauty flyer but is full colour more effective than black and white. How about two colours... anyone?
Still I like your flyer, when I get pics I always have to photoshop them to black and white because I'm so cheap:(

Good point. I'm thinking changing "Lawn Cutting Package" to "Lawn Care package" And then listed as "Professional mowing, trimming and cleanup". I think that would make it sound more professional but not overly complicated. I think "turf management" would confuse some people. I want to keep my business focus as wide as possible and not overcomplicate it.

The Business card is miss leading. Its over sized in the picture from real life because I used camera zoom. It is much nicer on the draft and its being done in a matte waterproof finish. It will be nice when done however I have taken off the "discount" but on the back and added commercial and residential like on the flyer.

Hey,
Well the choice for 5X7 is Canada post will not do full page for rural routes. Half of my target customers are rural. I can also pack the same punch with a 5X7 as a sparse full page. I also get it pretty cheap at 4.6 cents per flyer (about the same price as photocopying black and white). Now I think 2 color looks cheese but is WAY better then black and white. Canada post runs around $.10 per flyer under 100,000.
Keep the feedback rolling!

I would do that for 4.6 cents (not sure about 10 per on delivery, ad bag is 4.2 cents) but what kind of volume do you have to do to get that deal? I would love to design a full colour post, in fact the price guide form my printer about that size and I can read everything fine.

Oh that's how your designing, I don't know too much about that, nothing infact. I used Illustrator CS2 for the most part.

Not sure what you mean bro, all i did was get a printed draft from the printer and take a pic of then to post on here. I believe this was done by the designer in corel draw 12.

I can't get 4.6 cents each here, not even for 4 1/4 x5 1/2 (so they can get 4 out of a page.
Full bleed, full colour, two sided, My quantity 2500 (after the cut makes) 10,000 which is what I usually order, 10,000 post cards for 550 dollars, twice what you pay. more than twice.
Mind you, I pay about 350 dollars for full page black and white two sides.... this why I wish I knew if colour flyers are more effective than black and white.
Do you know what size of paper they are using to get your 5x7 out?

Well for mew to get the discount I need to order 50000. For 10000 I would be paying $1000 dollars still. Im pretty sure there is no cutting done and they are printed on precut 5X7 card.

Well my printer sucks. Was going to get back to me with a more accurate price but they didn't email me. I don't want the smaller card, 5x7 is a nice size I cut one out just to look at the size.
I'll prolly stick with what worked for me, full size black and white, two sided flyers and door handle flyers. Maybe two colours this time round.

You're sure going after high end people either that or the average price is awful low here in winnipeg. I personally wouldn't put such high price on a flyer, most of mine are $20 lots. But maybe it works, when are they going to be delivered?

Hi,
There in printing now. Really id never make any money on $20 a house, mind you im going for acre size lots which will be more then $34.99. I swear Ill use 10 bucks in Gas just traveling to these houses. They will be delivered by the end of week im hoping.

Good luck and let us know your response.
I also want to go after big lots, I just rode on a lawn tractor today and loved it.
What I don't like about lawn care in minimal. I don't like walking and I don't like unloading and loading, but with ear protection on and listening to audio books while I work is just great. I don't even mind the heat. Besides I can quit when I want. I'm self employed after all. (That's not really true, I have to bust my ass whether I feel like it or not most of the times, lol)

So you're still goin' with that thar "lawn cuttin'" thang, huh? Oh well, it could be worse. One half step down, you COULD be doin' "grass cuttin'".
Also, what is the deal with there being no uniformity in your list of things you do? you use capitals in your words in all but the Small Pond maintenance and the Pond Disaster recovery (whatever THAT is). What IS that, anyway? Do you pick up the fish out of water after a flood, or what? :)

Hey,
No I took the advice I just haven't updated the new drafts lol. Its now "Lawn Care Package" and says "Includes Professional mow, trim and cleanup. Also the capitalization error was also fixed.
Small pond maintenance is things like weekly water changes, chemical supplements, plant pruning, filter cleaning and of course landscape maintenance around the pond. I am certified to deal with these kinds of things by PIJAC (Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council) which is a committee in Canada and maybe the US, I'm not really sure. Anyways pond disaster recover can be many things from when a home owner accidentally uses fertilizers around the pond and the fish get sick to super green water which they can't clear up.
Cheers and keep the responses coming!
Thanks

I thought it was when you fell in the Pool.
about your comment about not making money on $20 dollar lawns. Even by myself I can do about two an hour and thats with a 21" mower. I don't know too much about this business yet and everyday is a learning experience but I think money can be made.
I know for sure spring clean up is a monster. I was raking in $60 bucks an hour with a 22" power raker and a couple guys helping. $60 after wages. I'll be better prepared for it next spring and make even more but I'm not sure what to do about winter cleanup. I'm not sure what to do with leaves.

That lawn vacuum thing is a good Idea I wish I had one this spring when I was doing power raking but I didn't even know they existed. I priced out one that looked good it was about teh same price as a power raker $1700ish.
