Ok so I will buy one of these enviro. friendly propane mowers and drive my big 6.0 V8 truck that gets 10 mpg to the jobsite. Sounds fantastic.
If its cheaper to run... i'll think about it.
If its more to run, I'll take my 27 HP Gas Z.
Just saw the #'s on the second page. Its a $1,400 premium. Lets say a Gas ZTR burns 1.3 Gallons per hour at $2.80 per gallon. It will take 650 hours to meet up with the $1,400 premium. And thats considering the propane is free.. I'm not sure how much that will cost...

 Burn!!!
I saw these at dixie chopper (an ad for them) Seems like a good idea.
Cost wise it would be cheaper to run propane then gas... if the cost of the mowers don't put them out of range. I'm not sure what they run.
My dad had an old 78 ford f-250 ext cab with a huge propane tank in the back, years ago you could fill it for $200, that would last almost all year for his in town commute. Compare that to gas... well you just can't
He was still able to use the 2 gas tanks and switch anytime he wanted.

Great so lets all switch to propane right then the gas companies will just jack up the f#$@kin rate for LP gas and screw us over on something else, ya?

Ferris has them at our local lawn show back in March....even had some of the big units with tanks the size of bombs on them.

I have tried out the Dixie Chopper LP mower. Not only does LP burn cleaner and is cheaper but it also equates to less maintenance and longer endurance. The engine stays cleaner and will last a lot longer.

Really the difference is in LP price per gallon and operational cleanliness.
It has to do with the carbon byproduct from burning Gasoline.
Apparently gas is a dirty fuel and will dirty the internal parts and oil.
The LP will have clear oil even 5 times longer than a gasoline engine. This means that if the oil is clan and contaminate free that it will have longer life and longer oil life means longer engine.
I understand (hear say) that oil in a truck set up for LP will last 20,000 miles and still look new.
I have been informed (again hear say) that all that happens is the additives in the oil are used up.
Although, I do still wonder about thermo breakdown though.
Other than that the mower was just like the others, minus the choke and including the LP tanks. It sounded the same ran the same and had plenty of power. It did mowed just fine.
If it is true that it is cleaner and that the cleaner fuels break down the oil less then it does stand to reason that the engines can last longer.
The dealer was a LP distributor and all of their trucks were Ford Alternative Fuel Vehicles. He (the gentleman who was to be the Dixie Chopper authority and had worked in LP for this company over 35 years) stated that the trucks were currently at 500,000+ miles and the other was 300,000+.
He did not show me but he said that the oil was never black ever.

I do this part time, my real job is Facilities supervisor for Bio-tech co.. We have a propane powered generator at one of the buildings it a 360 Mopar, about 25 years old. Someone took care of it cause had our Gen. service co. check it over when we purchased the property and he said it was in great shape and should work if ever called on. About 3 months later we lost power at two of our buildings for 18 hrs. and that propane unit ran perfect no problems at 5100 rpm in 90 deg. heat. It also sounded nice out side even with the oversized baffles on it. We are replacing this unit with a much bigger one, a V 16 Cat, self contained.
