View Full Version : Walk Behind Blower Not running right

I have a Mighty Mac WB blower with a 3 HP Briggs engine on it. It has to be at least 15 years old. The engine will start and run for like 10 minutes and then it seems like it gets hot and shuts off.The engine smokes a litle after running for about 10 minutes. What could be the problem? Is it worth it to just get another 3.5HP engine(Briggs Doesnt make a 3Hp anymore) or what?

It could be one of these probelms. The crankcase breather(s) are malfunctioning, or Leaking crankcase gaskets or seals are causing the engine to lose crankcase vacuum, and allowing the oil to be "pulled" into the combustion chamber or Oil is leaking past worn or damaged valve stems, valve stem seals, or valve guides. Mostly likey it is a oil ring(s) and/or cylinder bore are worn or damaged. LawnInOrder

Is there lots of carbon/soot on the spark plug or does it look 'wet'?

I would _not_ run that engine until you resolve this. You are seriously asking for shrapnel in your eye! Increased friction is directly proportional to increased temperature and vise versa. If she lets go at WOT, then....!!! You did at least supply the info for which RestroRob has pleaded and repeated (see post#3 at top of this forum) until he has blue smoke coming out his ears; "what is the model, serial, engine and part numbers, color code", well, maybe not quite.

Why do you think the engine is running hot? Also, I assume it is smoking out the exhaust; or is it smoking from the jug exterior as is the case with hot oil residue on cooling fins.
