Lawn Leveling Question

I just recently moved into a new house and whomever leveled out the backyard did a horrible job. I have several places in the middle of the yard that have 10-15 foot in diameter "mounds". My question is, is it best just to take away that dirt and spread it around the rest of my yard to make the yard level? Or do I need to bring up the rest of the yard around the mounds? Also the side of my house has a nice 10 inch or so grade on until it hits the fence line. If I try to level that area out some will the dirt just erode away?

This is a good idea. Instead of everyone taking a blind guess, post some pictures. You may try to level those high spots and find a bunch of tree stumps under there or something, but we can't tell because only you can actually "see" the area your referring to.
