i all so noticed that 1/2 of them dont have walk behinds they just have ztrs on there trailers.
my walk behind was stolden and i have just been using my ztr .i was thinking of replacing the walk behind with a toro tbar, but now that iv been using my ztr alot and have learned to turn with out tearing turf .how many of u guys get bye with just ztrs?

We live in Deere country! About the only thing you see is Deeres.
Anything from a LTX model to a 455 or above. We see so much green and yellow, it'd make you puke.
Live in a county of 25,000, and I haven't seen many commercial mowers, wbs or ZTRs. We have a Textron Bob-Cat ZTR, and we have people stop to look at it and talk to us occaisionally.

In my area Ferris wb's are dominant. I see Grasshoppers, Ferris wb's, Ferris IS's, Toro wb's, Snapper wb's, Exmarks, Kees, John Deere, and Bunton. I'm sure I've missed a few. I see one other DC besides mine and he is from the next county over.

I see more and more "NEW" guys with big new F450 Stakes and big new trailers with 3 new ZTR's and NO walkbehinds new OR used! How do they do it? Come to think of it, I rarely see a push/trim mower on these rigs either. Granted, my SCAG WB has only seen 23 hours so far this year, but I still NEED it. Same with the pushmower, don't use it much, but its on the trailer every day. Weedwacking large areas that you cant reach with the ZTR is considered SCRUB with a capital S to me!

Any thoughts?

We have them all.

Ive seen Exmark, Bobcat, Deere, Toro, Wright, Dane and one chopper.

No Superlawn trucks, but alot are using enclosed trailers. There are some real nice looking set-ups.

In descending order, someone in our are correct me if you think I'm wrong for this area:
Exmark, Skag, Toro, Grasshopper, Deere, Bunton, Woods, Lesco, Ferris. Once in a while we'll see a Chopper.

but there sure is alot that just use ztrs.im not sure if i will replase my wb .i can get my jobs done with just the one ztr and a 21"
the 21"for the wet ditches . you are right most guys dont even have a 21"either.

Mainly see others with TORO, SCAG, Exmark, and even saw ONE Dixie Chopper a while back! But only one....I guess it's just cuz DC's are outdated.....j/k! I get by just fine with only my 44" Lazer HP (I can trim just as good with it as any 21"). Only use my 21" for the backyard of one lawn I mow, but I am dropping that one tommorrow anyway.

Almost everyone around here has Dixie Choppers. There are only a few of us with Exmark's. I guess it is because there is a Dixie Chopper dealer here in town and the Exmark dealer is several miles away. If you go further down the interstate there are more people with Exmark's and Great Dane's.

I am from Dixie Choper country here. :D

ZTR's Dixie Chopper, Exmark, Toro

W/B's Bunton, Exmark, Toro

I have never seen a JD ZTR mowing around here, in fact, it's been a long time since I saw a JD mowing at all here.

We only use DC ZTR's, no walk behinds, just the 21" for small areas around swimming pools.

 I agree dixie 1 there are a lot of trailers with only ztrs. no walkbehinds or small trim mowers on them,I don`t understand that they have accounts in the same area that I do, and can only use a ztr.I have some accounts that I can cut the whole thing with a ztr, most of them I have to use the wb on a part of it.

See a lot of exmarks, and choppers, and have been seeing more grasshoppers.

Around here (western CO.) it's ALL walker. Maybe two or three outfits with wb's. You have the "just startings" with craftsman riders, the "plan an staying small or just getting a good base" with the commercial WB (seriously only two or three companies) then everyone else with at least one Walker and generally two...

I would love to buy a new one but it takes some serious mowing to pay for the 10,000 price tag! ( and the one I have now is working great!)

around here is scag country for walk behinds. when you start getting into ztr's you have predominantly lazer z's where i look. then you have the tigers, and then the walkers, then the bobcat machines, dont see much other than those. the dealers who i well, deal with they sell all tigers and what not. they just sold 2 walkers today. but they mostly sell the scags. they dont sell many exmarks at all. they are big scag guys. brickman buys now i think 40 or so scags at a time from them therefore this would be scag country here.

Around here we see grasshoppers, dixie's, and deere's. But it seems most everyone has a CRAFTSMAN:eek:

Most guys around here have 21" mowers as their primary (not me anymore ;) ). Mostly Honda 21"s. I have a Toro. Yet again, I stand out ;). All the others have garden tractors. One guy has a Deere, one has a Honda, another has a Husky, and one other guy with a Crapsman. Those are ALL residential garden tractors. I'm the first guy to have a commercial piece of mowing equipment in this town, besides the park guys, they don't count. LOL. They get the new equipment from the Parks Department. Other than that, I have the only commercial mower in town. I feel like a pioneer. LOL. Oh well, with those crappy riders those other guys have, they can't stripe so heck with them! And the guys with 21"s don't stripe either. Too bad for them...NOT!

Most contractors like myself are equipped with Lawn Boys. Encore,Exmark, and Scags are the main line of WB. Walker,Toro, and Lazers for ztr.

beginning to see a bigger mix around here. Dixies and Axemarks are still the dominate machines, no walkers, some scags, one or 2 ferris's's's's'.

I don't own a walkbehind, probably kill myself trying to operate it. there are 2 in town that use them only, no ztr's. Most don't have them just the 21" for small areas.

I ain't seen the first stander around here yet. No sulkys or slides. The larger town next to us has a lot of walkbehinds and probably a greater mix, we're in podunk-ville.

Most of the outfits I see run 21's. You see a few walk behinds scattered in the mix. And very rarely you will see a ZTR.

21's: I see mainly Toro.
wb's: Lot's of Scag, few Exmark's, and a few old Bobcat's
ZTR's: I've seen a few Scags, a few Walkers, a few Exmark's, a couple of Hustler Short Cut's.

Also been seeing garden tractors lately.

It surprises me how many of the big companies around here drive around with a 16' trailer with only 2 21's loaded.

exmark, walker, ferris, toro, in w/b and ztrs. the only thing i don't understand is how these guys aren't stripping the lawns when they cut. i don't get it? i'm saying not even a very lite strip, theres nothing.

have seen some great set upd, but their on bigger companies. only thing about them is a nice set-up and company name, other than that you couldn't tell the difference between them and a neightborhoob kid cutting. honest to god truth. i'll take pics with my digital camera when i get later today.

Exmark Exmark Exmark. Pretty much the only machine run around here. An occasional toro, and huscvarna, but pretty much just Exmark. A good reason for all the Examrk is we have a great dealer that sells alot of Exmark. I dont know why anyone would go anywhere else if they are commercial.

I see everything but Ferris. The closest dealer for Ferris is over 100 miles. I would say Toro and Walkers make up the majority, but exmarks are starting to take a huge market share from these guys. The dealerships for the exmarks are really subpar in this area.

Exmarks rule the roost around here and there's a good reason for it. The most popular dealer is selling the Lazer Z 60" with 23 Kaw for $6660.00. He has already sold 30 of them and is waiting for 12 more. After that it is Gravely, Scag, Bobcat, Ferris, Toro, Kees, Grasshopper, Encore, Kubota and a ton of riding tractors.

Mostly see Toro or Honda 21" push mowers around here. A few older Scags, a couple Exmarks, and some 'second-rate' walk-behinds (Troy-Bilt?).

No ZTRs in this landscape.

X marks the spot around here. Thats because you have to drive an hour to find any other dealers. I guess when you get that Z-RIDER urge you grab the nearest thing you can. No offense to X, they're not too shabby. I wouldn't trade my Ferris SD walk behind, with Velke, for any other. Forward and reverse with the thumbs, smooth as silk. Most all of my accounts are too steep for Riders ( and I know how to measure slopes ). Thanks to all the Riders around here I have plenty of work.

In my area there are alot of Dixons and riding tractors, a few lazers , a couple of grasshoppers, one scag, and lo and behold somebody came through town the other day with one of them choppers. That's the only chopper I know of in my area, never seen a Great Dane, Ferris, Bobcat, or Walker mower; except in the magazines. Never saw a walk-behind mower in use {never ever}, just 21" push mowers. :blob3:

we have the #2 dealer in the US in Grasshoppers here, and everybody has them. I see some skags, and a couple of choppers, and the lawn boogers tend to have older rider mowers behind a Buick. we always carry push 21's for backyards. Dave g

Around my area guy's are using Scag,Exmark and Toro. A mix of WB's and ZTR's. I myself am using a Walker MT-54. With the out front deck I don't even get my 21" off the trailer except for one gated pool area. The Walker lets me get right under shrubs trees and other things in the landscape. It's just my Walker and my Husky 322L Grass Trimmer doing the jobs now.

Mostly Lazer Z's in my area. I use one myself (60" w/ 23 Kawa). I LOVE IT!

For small areas I use an old MTD Lawnflight 20" (3.5 hp) I LOVE IT TOO!

I also see lotsa WB's because we have lots of grades, slopes, and bumpy terrain around here. I really could use a good 36" WB myself but until I can buy one I just don't bid on lawns that require much push mowing...wears my back out and eats up the clock.

I've been lucky lately and picked up a few "football field" lawns with hardly any trim work...yahoo! :D

Funny thing though....I just picked up two "postage stamp" sized lawns next to each other and I do them together with only my 20". $60 for 45 minutes work. I'm luck to pop $40-$45 on hour on the acre lots with my Lazer Z because of the extra trimming , edging, etc. I want more "postage stamps"! :D

Most of the LCO's in northern KY have a combination of mowers. Toro ZTR's and Toro WB's or eXmark ZTR's and eXmark WB's. The WB's aren't just small ones either. Many are 60". Most everyone has eXmark's, then Toro's (mostly WB's), Yazoo/Kees, Scag, and a few odd balls (like me) have Bunton WB's. I have seen one DC and a Steiner.

I have an eXmark Metro 36" and a Bunton Gear Fixed 48" and a Toro 21".

I took a trip up to south-central Indiana and I saw a bunch of LCO's with Craftsman (Crapsman) mowers. What's up with that?

WeedWhacker69

About 90% of the ZTR's around here are Dixie Choppers. You also see a few Toro's,Snappers,Scags, and yes alot of Craftsmans. I currently have a Snapper Yard Crusier but are going to get a Chopper or Exmark and I only use my Craftsman as a back up, I also use a walk behind. That's when it's not #@*^$ rainning!!!!!

corycc says: "I took a trip up to south-central Indiana and I saw a bunch of LCO's with Craftsman (Crapsman) mowers. What's up with that?"

I see that around here alot. And Murrys. Most appear to be older men (maybe retired guys?) alone.

Later they will wish they bought a Scott's from John Deere. I mowed over 600 acres with mine (16hp Kohler/42" deck/hydro trans) last year and about 100 acres the summer before last doing the dad's, gramps, and my own lawns and have only had to replace the ignition switch. Fires up in a heartbeat and runs and cuts great now. After getting a Lazer Z this year I pulled the deck off of it and use it for pulling wagons, aeriating (sp?), and pulling a cyclone spreader. That little tractor received hell last summer...and took it with a shrug! I could not recommened them higher to the homeowner who needs a tractor for their 1 to 2 acre lawn.

I did maintain it at twice the manufacturers recomendations though. Never let the oil get close to dark before changing it.

most of the big guy use W/B's some riders

the smaller guy like the ZTR's and yes you can take them almost any where
