I never heard of a "525".

But a 52" Lazer with the 22hp LC Kawi is a decent mower.

You can get a lot more hours than that out of this engine.

I just sold my 60" LC Lazer (27hp though) for that same price. If this is in good shape and 52" deck fits your needs, then go for it. I'd get him down a bit though on the price.

I have a 2001 52-inch Exmark Lazer Z as well as the documention that came with it plus that year's Exmark catalog. TLS's skepticism seems appropriate to me. There is no mention of a 252 or 252L in any of those documents. One of them has a list of all engines in Exmarks that year, and there's a 23 HP liquid-cooled Kawasaki, but no 22 HP of any make. Maybe you should check with Exmark.

On the other hand, I bought mine as a leftover in September 2001, so maybe my catalog is really for 2002 models. The catalog doesn't specify a year, but my air-cooled 23 HP Kawasaki is in that catalog, so I had assumed it pertained to the 2001 models.

My apologies, the mower is a Toro 252L Zmaster

That unit will last a homeowner like yourself forever. You should be able to get it for 3700 or 4000 somewhere in there.

That's for sure! For instance, mine now has 90 hours on it.

Is it true the engine should go 3000 hrs?

That engine should go at least that.

Heck, guys are getting 3K+ from air cooled engines.

I had almost 1800 hrs on my LC 27, and it never used a drop of oil. Ran smooth and had as much power as it did when new.

Don't know if you would consider spending a bit more for something new, but when I was at my local Lesco dealer a couple of weeks ago, I noticed they were selling their 2005 leftover 52" ZTR with a 23 HP Kawasaki for $6000. Looked pretty good to me, and if I didn't already have something comparable, I would have been tempted.

It might be that the biggest problem with the one in question with 1100 hours is that you don't know how well the previous guy maintained it. And of course there are other things besides the engine which could be worn........such as the spindles and the hydraulic units. And if you think of it compared to a used car, 1100 hours at an average of 50 MPH would be like 55,000 miles. Would you pay 75 percent of the cost of a new but last year's model car for one 5 years old with 55,000 miles on it?

Well, good luck.
