I am located in the central Florida area and am looking to buy a used 1998-2002 TORO 580D or similar mower and have no idea where to start looking. I would appreciate any information that anyone might have. I am brand new to this forum so forgive me if I posted in the wrong place.

eBay has a few on there from time to time.

Do a search on the internet for used commercial turf equipment.
I can personally recommend Jim Mullins from Ohio, he owns Country Club Landscaping and is a major source of good quality, reasonably priced turf equipment.

As a matter of fact, I've been looking for a newer one myself. It's a matter of luck finding a good used one.
I'd recommend you contact Toro for (relatively) local dealers. Toro has a lease program and sometimes the dealers get a really sweet one in. I spied one in Cincinnati last year with about 3,000 hours on it. I would have bought it but the salesman said he'd already promised to show it to a fellow in Kentucky. "Course he bought it.
I don't know your situation but I'd advise before making any deal on one to go look at it first. Because with the lease programs and the warranty periods, sometimes the honesty of the "actual" hours on the hour meter are in serious question. A lot of these used equipment salesmen have never seen the machine they have for sale because they're at some remote location.

I personally wouldn't settle for something "similar" to the 580. And I've owned other big mowers.

Good hunting, maybe you'll go from thecanopyguy to the a/ccabguy!

Here's my pitiful search list. Maybe it's why I'm still looking.

If you're willing to ship here's a bunch of places to start.

www.eberlyequipment.com (specializes in large rotaries)
www.usedturfequipment.com
www.lawnandturf.com
www.cutteronline.com
www.callthesource.com
www.globalturfequipmentllc.com

Good luck on the search. You may want to check out the Jacobsen HR 9016. Bigger engine, hydraulic motor on each blade. They're hard to find but worth a peek.
