View Full Version : Need advice on Fastrak Mower

Two years ago I bought a Hustler Fastrak 17.5 HP 52" deck. I've had too many problems with the motor (Briggs) so I'm trading it in. I'm looking at the FasTrak 20 HP Kohler 52". I've been told I'd be better off spending a little more on a 20 HP Honda because the Honda has two cylinders vs the Kohler being a single cylinder. I need advice.

Definitely dump the Briggs if you are ready to.
The Kohler is a fine engine, but the Honda is one smooth runner and well worth the $$$. Smooth, quiet, lots of torque, great on fuel, 2 yr commercial warranty. I own a 2052 FT Honda and it is the best engine I have owned or used so far.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to spend the extra money and go for the Honda!

You'll be glad you went for that Honda!
Just out of curiosity, how many hours are on your Fastrak? Any problems other than with the engine? Also, how much are you getting on trade?

Approximately 30 hours. He's giving me $3,000. Both front tires went flat and I had to replace a belt. I bought it spring of 2004. The motor just went out of warranty and I had to have major repair on the motor twice. I'm a single mom and I needed something more dependable and "in warranty".

You wouldn't get a bumper-to-bumper warranty, but I think you could probably put a better engine on your existing mower and save a bunch of money!
I've always heard good things about Honda small engines, but it took me about 20 attempts to start my Honda-powered pressure washer this morning. It's 15 months old with about 50 hours on it. I'm not impressed with it.

30 hrs since spring '04? You sure don't mow much... Maybe you should consider just selling the mower outright and hiring a LCO? You're about to take a big loss on that machine and get right back into another one that you may not need. Just my 2 cents.

Oops...typo error...it should have been 130 hours.

Mine is the 20/52 with Honda twin cylinder. As a data point, I use a bagging system on my which is manufactured by Whirlwind specifically for FasTrak. The Whirlwind owners manual highlights to not install bagging system on a single cylinder FasTrak.

Thanks. That's good to know.

OK, 130 hrs is more like it... Now get that Honda and mow, mow, mow.
