What's the best way to "store" sod?

Every year I go out, there are customers who want a quick fix for the lawns where the snow plow has made a divit or two. What I was thinking was, why not buy a few rolls of sod to keep on hand and use it for patching?

What's the best way to store sod, and how long will it keep?

Sod should be layed as soon as possible,rolled sod will keep a day or two in a cool spot, out of direct sun. water lightly.

longer than 48 hours unroll the strips on a hard ,cool, even surface.

protect your sod from sun and heat, and keep it moist.

roll them up again before moving , take care not to tear.

...Sorry not sure what the maximine lenght of time is that you can safely store it.

Start you're own sod farm and cut it as you need it.We get fresh as we need it, from the sod farm, we lay no telling how many thousands of square yards of sod , like it fresh off the farm lol.

We have stored sod during renovations for approximately a week rolled out on a piece of plastic. This has only occured during spring and fall whilst it is cooler. We simply watered the sod on the plastic once a day. The sod kept great but we have experienced some thinning of turf under the plastic.

to store sod. Lay down some netting or burlap on some even bare soil. Roll out the sod and keep it watered. the netting or burlap will help you lift it later when you need to move it. Best bet is to have a nursery area or get it from a supplier as you need.

If you want to do this as you say. A good way to get good sod in your area is to contact a local pool retailer. When they have to remove sod for a pool do it for them charge them a fee of like $150 for removing the sod in the spring. Keep the good sod and put it down in your nursery for later use. Keep the sod nice and damp so the roots do not have to go deep for water and is always ready for transplant.
