I got a referral today from a real estate agent friend of mine. When I showed and knocked on the door, the new owner came out greet me and was all smiles! As we walked out into the yard she turned to me and said, "So, I can't remember, is it $25 a month or a week?" I was a little stunned and said, "Um, neither actually, it will be $38 a week."

$25 a month? Do they teach anything decent in schools anymore?

$25 / week would suit me dandy for up to 1/3 acre lot so long it's naturally irrigated lawn, non-fertilized.
That's close to 110 / month, 2-3 cuts / month, I'm there.

So they pay weekly and I cut every 12-14 days, here come July most of my lawns are on 2-3 weeks.
I'd likely have to refund some of it lol.

Very true. I'll take it, but I'll out it on my "Customers to watch carefully" list. I did get the job for at least the month of July. It's right next door (Okay, maybe 4 houses away) to another customer so there's no extra trucking. And I should be in and out in 20 minutes.

Yes I did. The funny thing is, that no other LCO's seem to be answering their phones in the last 60 days. I'll I've heard from all my newbies is that no one ever calls them back. Fine with me, I can always use the extra cash.

I used to hear that all the time.

Now I find myself not returning a lot of calls.

........
I would've still said 'yeah $25 / week I think' then come out every 10-12 or 12-14 days, if it even needs it that often.
But no, $25 / month wouldn't work.

I find it amazing that anyone would even think of 25/mth or even a per visit.

Why not pay them to cut their lawn?

Now is this 20 minutes work solo or a 2-man crew?

I don't think I'll ever get in that habit. There is one major LCO in town that seems to have adopted that habit and instead of being known for the quality of their work (way back when) they are now remembered as the company that doesn't return their phone calls. No...not something I am ever going to aspire to.

I agree with Highgrass. I would NEVER intentionally fail to return a call, even if I had no intention of taking the account. To me, that is just common courtesy. If I were overbooked, and tired of answering the phone, a better alternative would be to route the calls through an answering machine saying that if you are not an existing customer of our business, we are fully booked and no longer accepting new accounts at this time. Then thank them for their call.

Topsites you need to raise you rates, 25 up to 1/3 an acre, try 35-40. Give yourself a pay raise bud.
