Why do the earlier lazer hps use 2 starter solenoids? Mine is a 2000.I checked elec diagram from a newer machine and it shows just the solenoid on starter, mine has one on starter and one on frame also? The reason I need to know is I bought a newer engine 2004.Will I be good to go when I install,or am i going to run into problems.I changed connector end on new engine to match the harness connector on the exmark.I have read on here a while back about kohler switching starter manuf. Will the newer delco-remy work with the dual solenoid setup??This is the last thing I have to figure out before the new motor goes in.Any help here would be greatly appreciated.:dizzy: LazerZHP

Because the starter mounted type solenoids can pull up to 30 amps just by them self. The fender type solenoid pull only about 1 to 2 amps. The key switch is not made to handle 30 amps and will burn out after a while. To save the key switch a second fender type solenoid or a relay is used the can handle the power. Also I will try to find that post about the starter change in wiring. If you get the wiring wring on the new Deco starters they will hang up anbd will not stop once started. You will have to unhook the battery to shut the starter down.

OK this post may help
also there is a picture on lawnsite some where I can not find it just now that shows the wiring change needed on some machines when installing a Deco starter. Maybe some one else can find it.
I find after all. You need to read post number 3 and look at that picture real good
