For those of you with one-man operations going, what do you guys do when you get sick? I have a cold, and I feel like crap right now and tomorrow I have nine jobs. I don't know if I would be able to handle 6 or 7 hours of yard work, but I don't want to let the yards get overgrown either.

Should I wait a few days until i'm feeling better and then maybe bag grass that got too high? Or should I just hop myself up on dayquil and just do the best I can? Also, I was thinking of temporarily hiring a buddy to at least help me out for the day so it at least is easier.

What do you guys do?

Have a friend or two help out and next come up with a good backup plan for the future.

I missed one day because of sickeness in over 15 years. I had food poisoning. Unless, I carried around a toilet... Worked with the flu, sprained ankle, bummed knee, sinus infection, vertigo, 30 bee stings etc. Best remedy for sickness is hard work and hot sunny weather.

You'll either be working or sitting at home sick, may as well get paid to be sick.

Well. I went out and bought plenty of Dayquil. I might ask a buddy to help out. Wish me luck :cool2:

As my grandfather used to say "I'll either heel you or kill you" but get your azz out there in that garden and pull those weeds, milk the cows, shovel the snow, bale hay, etc... Take plenty of fluids, wash cloth with cool water for neck and face. Good Luck!!!

You can stay at home and feel lousy or be out working feeling lousy... as long as you're not too sick you have to work to make money.

I can handle a cold, sinus infection and about every ache and pain except one, and that is a *** stomach virus. Im down for the count when I get that like Charles said. When Ive been to sick to go to work I call and tell the clients Ill be there as soon as possible and just apologise, most understand with no problem. I have no backup help at all.

While it may be ok in general for someone to work while under the influence of a cold, it is very important that you listen to what your body is trying to tell you. If you feel really tired or weak, that may be a sign for you to rest because pushing yourself may cause you harm or even kill you- whether it's from complications of the illness, or from not being able to properly operate equipment. It's up to you to decide whether or not your health comes first. Take care and good luck. :waving:

I figure when I'm sick, I do what I can...
If 9 yards are on the schedule and I get 6 done, good.
But if I can not get out of bed, then that's the way that goes.

Maybe take some daytime cold medicine, sometimes that's enough to turn things around, but make sure it's a non-drowsy formula.
