Hey I'm kind of unofficially looking at buying a chainsaw and I'm sure that most of you guys must have at least one or two. My family owns a big ranch in Gunnison Colorado where they get into some pretty heavy stuff with their saws and they seem to really like Husqvarnas. However, I don't think that they have had much experience with other brands. I like Redmaxs trimmers so what do you all think; a Redmax G621AVS or a comparable Stihl or Husqvarna? Thanks!:usflag:

Stihl MS361 gets my vote. I have owned one for 6 months now and have had it in some pretty heavy stuff, never failed and I dont expect it to. Pricey at 550+tax but man, it is a beast IMO. Either do that or look in the for sale section of this forum, there were 2 440 magnums on there for a great price. 440's are very reliable saws that have been around for a long time.

I've got a Stihl 029 (now the MS290) that I've had for six years, had a few repairs and had to replace worn out items now and then but it never faield to start up. Only things I've ever had to replace were wearable items on the cutting end of it (bars, chains, sprockets, clutch, etc.).
On the farm we've got all Stihl equipment, an 088, an MS290 and an 029, an 024AV and a Stihl that is as old as the steel it is made from.

stihl 361, I got one after the hurricane last year. I cut a lot of heavy stuff and abused the saw pretty good. I never had a problem with it. If the chain is sharp it will cut anything.

Have oned both brands, prefer the way the Huskys cut but have had easier time finding parts when needed for the Sthils. Haven't used a Redmax saw so can't comment on those. I think you'd be in good shape though with any of these major brands really.

Stihl ms260 and 066. Love them both.

I also have a small 3400 Echo. Cheap little sucker, but I use the crap out of it. It has a 14" bar and fits everywhere. I've had more return on investment from that little guy, than both of my others.

Echo CS-346. I love this saw. I use it for storm prep and storm clean-ups. All of my equipment is Echo brand. Just because I have had great luck and longevity with them. So I stick with them. Don't want to mess with a good thing. Like said above, a lot of good saws out there. Personal preference for the most part.

I have a 026, MS361 and a 066 Mag. The 026 is a nice light weight limbing saw. The 361 is a high reving fast accelerating do it all saw with the best anti vibe I have ever used. It's great for running hours at a time if your bucking wood. The 066 is a little heavy for bucking fire wood all day but it will bring down just about anything.

Echo 360t is my vote. I have one, and its a perfect pruning saw.

My vote goes to Stihl. I've got 3 Stihl saws, my first is an 025 (MS250 now) MS260 Pro & an HT 101 pole pruner. I also have an FC110 edger and I just picked up a new BR600 blower.

I vote for just about Any Stihl, or a Husky upwards of the 350 model. any Redmax saw is a great choice too.

I prefer Husky. And this questions you asked has a alot to do with what you need to use the saw for? From what I read between the arborist sites out there (And yes I am in the tree business) that stihl (MS200T) is the climbing saw of choice and husky (346,359,372/575,395) is the ground saws of choice. And good dealership support is also a good thing to have too. We have excellent support from our dealer. And we also repair our own stuff too. But I'd have to say for a good saw that you could run all day is a Husky 359. Its not heavy, lots of power and will do anything you want it to do. Or if your prefrence is Stihl then an MS440 or MS460 will suit you fine. And for Redmax Ive never ran one of there saws but I would stick to a main brand such as Husky or Stihl if you want to keep the saw for a long time.

Ive been climbing and running a bucket for a little over 20 years and have found the Echo 3400 to be my choice for climbing and bucket work. 14" bar best buy for your buck (about $260). It will do more than you think.
As for big saws I run a Husky 372 W/24" bar and a Husky 394 W/36& 54" bar. They are both bullet proof animals. Good luck with your choice.

Go over to http://www.arboristsite.com/ and get about all the information you care to read from people that know their saws like you know your mowers.

All three brands you mentioned are very good brands, JUST GET THE PRO MODEL!!!
I would have got the 3 cube RedMax if I had a dealer close but ended up with a 488 Shindaiwa and PS7900 EHP Dolmar.
What dealers are close to you would determine a lot.

Hope this helps!

this is exactly right. all three are good saws.

i like the huskys because i think they have a better power to weight ratio than sthils. but i have had 2 365's, 272, ms290, 036, and a 044

and i liked the 365's the best
i also think that huskys turn more rpms which make them cut better

If you have a Dolmar dealer around, you should defiantly check out the PS-5100S for a three cubic inch saw http://www.dolmarusa.com/site/managed/html/produkt/4084/PS-5100_S

And for a 5 cube saw check out the PS-7900 at http://www.dolmarusa.com/site/managed/html/produkt/4080/PS-7900

I had my PS-7900 modified by Ed Heard and it is a very fast saw with a awsome power to weight ratio.

I have been told that Makita bought Dolmar out and if that’s the case we might get a heck of a dealer network.

Husq saws are about the only thing they make right anymore. We got 2 of em... a 357xp and i think a 575 we bough after katrina. We also have a ECHO 520.

It all depends what you need to cut. If your going to just be doing some light limbing and such a 455 rancher husq or a 340 or 350 will be fine. If your serious something larger is in order such as a 575

if your in need of SERIOUS power nothing compares to a husq 3120 ..almost 8.5 hp

I got some old husq trimmers that refuse to die but do preffer the new stihls we got.

Stihl saws are real sweet too... You wont go wrong with either brand as long as you pick a model to fit your needs
