I got an email just a bit ago from Landscape Business Systems saying that they had gotten this in their computer and emailed it to everyone they had emailed lately. Please read this and see if it sounds legit. I had gotten an email on this last week and another one a few minutes later saying it was a hoax. Does anyone Know for sure? Here is the letter.
Following is information I received this morning regarding a Trojan virus
>programmed to become active June 1. Because of the delay in activation, it
>does NOT show up on virus detection software such as McAffe or Norton.
>
>I checked my computer and found the virus, and so did several others on my
>e-mail address list. No one knows how long the virus has been in the
>system. It may have been there for several months already.
>
>On June 1, this virus will become active and wipe out all files and folders
>on the hard drive of your computer.
>
>The virus travels through e-mail and migrates to the 'C:\windows\command'
>folder.
>
>To find it and get rid of it from your computer do the following:
>
> Go to the "START" button
>
> Go to "FIND" or "SEARCH"
>
> Go to "FILES & FOLDERS"
>
> Make sure the find box is searching the "C" drive.
>
> Type in: SULFNBK.EXE
>
> Begin search/find
>
> Find the file, HIGHLIGHT and hit the DELETE button,
>Then go to and delete it from the Recycle bin!
>
>The GOOD NEWS is you should now be safe.
>
>The BAD NEWS is that if you detect the virus, you in turn need to contact
>everyone you have sent ANY e-mail to in the past few months, and share this
>warning with them.
>
>Do not rely on your anti-virus software. Neither McAffe nor Norton can
>detect this virus because it does not become a virus until June 1. On that
>date, it will be too late. Whatever you do, do not open the file!
BTW, I did have this on my C drive also. I did delete it, but I still don't know if it is a hoax or legit.

Eric, I did a search on my system and found the same file. According to the date, it came loaded on my system when I bought it from Dell.

I doubled click to see what it would do and it says it's a "Bad command line format", obviously it doesn't even work. The date of the file on mine is Oct. 10, 1999.

Eric,
I found that nasty bug on mine after you posted this. I gotta say, it definitely does NOT look like a friend, from the icon. It reminded me, somewhat, of the conversion program, probably just because of the simple, black set-up. BLASTED IT!!

Grassmaster has a thread on this in the off topic forum. He also says that if you delete that file, you're in trouble! Better check!

Eric, I'm having some trouble finding the file on my recovery CDs (HP) ... any idea how to? I checked the page but it just ref's the W98 CD.
This is a hoax!!! It is designed that you delete part of your operating system. I have read all the replies so maybe you've already figured this out . If so, sorry.

Eric, I'm running Win98SE, give me your email and I'll email you the file. As long as it's 98, it won't hurt anything. Just make sure you put it back in the same directory. I guess this is legal.
Sorry - I meant "I haven't read all of the replies". Got in a hurry.

Hello Everybody:
I think a few folks need to get together & help send these other folks out with the "Long Filename Backup File"
It goes into yo C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND folder
If you E-mail me, I'll send it to you?
Let me ask you something, why do you use Anti Virus Programs to start with? I have 4 different ones & haven't had one running on my puter since 1998 (I've been on the net since 1994)? I don't need a Anti Virus Programs? Do you?
Do this? Start up yo Puter with the Anti Virus software on & running in the background. Ok now check your % of operating system resources.
Now take that crap off your puter or disable it & check the Operating System Resources percentages again. All Anti Virus software does is rob you of power. I need that power when I'm doing the wild thang on the internet.
7 plus years & no virus yet?

I'm all set here. :D
It was in the cab files, there are instructions on the post CSRA posted on how to do this. It was easier than I thought. Just follow the instructions. There is a back up copy in the cab files. It should be here, type this in your file search precopy1 and you should have a compressed back up file there.
After and if you find it on the C drive, copy and paste this in after going to start and run on the blank line.
extract c:\windows\options\cabs\precopy1.cab sulfnbk.exe /L c:\windows\command
This is for Win 95, 98, and ME
It will extract that file into the correct folder unless you changed directorys where your windows program is.
Here is a great site to check for hoaxes:

And this one is the first one mentioned on this page of newest hoaxes at that site:

Grassmaster,
I'm going to respectfully disagree with your comments. You are a very computer savvy person, especially with your vast net experience, and therefore can safely surf the WWW without trouble. However there are plenty of people who need virus software because they are not as computer savvy, & they will hopefully avoid problems by using it correctly. And if your virus software is hogging up your resources (which it sure does!), I'm gonna have to say, you're computer ain't big enough for what you're trying to use it for - time for an upgrade. That makes me think of someone trying to cut an acre of lawn with a 21" push mower, time to upgrade to the 60" ZTR model mower. ;) Just my $.02

DON'T DELETE ANYTHING THIS IS A HOAX!

Eric and all:
I recieved that warning from a reliable source. It was late on May 31 and I did not wnat to risk screwing up other peoples systems because of a e mail or the e-newsletter I sent out so that is why I forwarded it on. I found out June 1 early am that it was a hoax. I was given the link to Synmatac's hox warning page and have it bookmarked now, so I can check it out before I panic and hit the send button on a broadcast e-mail.
To those of you on here who recieved it from me, I apolgize for any inconvience and time I caused you, but my main concern again was the integrity of the systems that I communicate with. I did have several newsletter cancellations right after that because the subscribers thought they could be infected from my machine.
So far it is June 3 today, and my system is running fine with that file deleted. It is still in recycle, and I think I will just hold it there for a while.
I will agree with the person who said you need to have the anti virus software. I have been on the net since 94 also, and have recieved several virsus and trojan horses and the McAfee and a server san has caught the most damaging ones, and I have caught the rest. Some things do get thorough, but I have never had a hard drive failure from them.

Something you might want to do before you delete any thing is go to Symantec or McAfee web site an check their hoax page. Most email messages you receive from individuals are a hoax.
Of course the best thing is to have a virus checker installed.

Hello Everybody:
In most cases Viruses come from E-mails with attachments & I do not download any of them. Unless I know the source of the E-mail & believe me I must know the source well! :-)
It's funny that most are related to Micro$oft in one way or another & lot of them have to do with Micro$oft Outlook. If they are not related to that then they are related to Micro$oft Word files some kinda Mumbo Jumbo about corrupted Macros.
A friend of mine is a CPA & he has problems when using others word files from floppies on his Laptop.
I very much frown on these Crappy looking web sites that have files for you to download. I stay away from them, also for some strange reason you get some of that stuff from .edu domain names. Those Kids really like to play around.
Yes, I do not use virus programs because of it Robbing System Resources. Yes I do not have a real fast machine, at the moment I work on a Dell Laptop & it's a 650mhz, now it has 256mb of ram, 12 gig hard drive, Cd/r/w also & etc... Yeh it's a little slow, I have a NEC 233mhz that's fast & it has not gave me problems in over 2 years. Yet! Don't know about tommorrow? Yep I need new puter, but will probably never buy anything but laptops from now on (they have spoiled me.) I have 5 Puters & they are a full time job to keep up with. BTW I still have a 75mhz Nec that I've had since 1994 or 1995 it was my second puter & it's still kicking & still gets used daily! :-)
I bang my puters hard because I'll be running it while on the Internet, with PSP, FP2K, Ulead, MS Word, MS 4.0 web Personal Web Server, Live Help, couple of notepads open, Outlook E-mail, Outlook for NewsGroups & sometimes a few more running open & running in the back ground almost everyday all at one time.
So I need my System resources at full peak & it's hard for me to achieve anything over 65% to 85% & if I get that much, I'm very happy. If I can save 5% to 10% cutting out something that I haven't needed in 7 or so years, I's go for it!
I use this LapTop as a Tool very little Entertainment for me except Pride in my Work, Accomplishments & Income that Obtain from it! :-) I take the Internet very Serious.
I have more problems with downloading Crappy Software more than anything else. But I have learned that if I always load my programs through my Add & Remove programs this eliminates 90% of my problems. The other 10% I just bite the Bullet & go to my MSDOS System Registry & back it up a day or 2. Then I'm ready to go again with no problems. This takes me less than 10 minutes to accomplish & it beats the crap out of full system restore? :-)
I carry my system recovery cd & always have a back up of all my important files & Programs with me. I now run over 60 programs besides what commes with my puter. If I go down it would take me about 3-18 hour days to get back up & running at full Steam! LOL, I spend more time backing up & saving than anything else.
I've had this Laptop 1 year just after Fathers day & I have had no problems with it yet & will probably buy more Dells. Hey I called Tech Support one time & the guy answered on the 3rd ring. Now that's Killer Tech Support Service. Hey Eric I bet if DC made a LapTop it would be Killer T00! :-)
BTW: I found out about this Virus from Micro$oft Front Page NewsGroup, these guys Know their Stuff. If you do not hang around some of these NewsGroups you are missing out on about 50% of the Internet. That's a fact Jack. MSFP2K newsGroup was my first in 1998 & loved it ever since. There are NG's that will blow yo Mind! These folks are the Brains & BackBone of the Internet.
I bet some of you guys have missed my Mile Long Post, so here's a Teaser!
That's all I know for now?
