Looks like a steal. What engine does it have in it?

THEGOLDPRO
07-25-2006, 04:36 PM
nice, are you gonna plow with it, and if so what do you plow that needs a truck that big.

Metro Lawn
07-25-2006, 09:32 PM
It has a 195HP Cummins diesel in it. We got it for summer (dirt, mulch, ect) and as a salt truck. If used for plowing, I would only consider doing streets and such in the apt. and condo complexs as they salt. It really wouldn't be good for general plowing unless used on jobs such as truck terminals ect that are in the center of a property where you never back up... just keep going around in circles pushing everything to the outside.

195hp will be plenty for a local town truck, esp a single axle. Your dads truck is a tri-axle right?

Was there a joke here somewhere? I must have missed it. I have 12 Dodge trucks 93 and older. Many of them have been plow trucks from day 1 and I haven't replaced a single trans yet. Now if it were a 94-01 then you may be right, those transmissions are junk. This one is also a manual trans, which is even more unlikely to have problems.

C'mon now, that's a little harsh :) With proper care and the proper use of overdrive, these trannies will last a long time too.

Everyone knows I am a die hard Dodge fan, but I have no faith in those transmissions. My 95 was never abused, I had an oversized cooler installed and never towed or plowed with the overdrive on. I've put 2 trans. in it to date with 130,000 on it

In terms of mowing, how many accounts are you guys knocking out each week.

seeing all those old trucks, all i keep thinking is how reliable can they be even with low mileage? i guess when you have 17 trucks, 4 can go down and the rest can pick up the slack. too bad your not in CT, ive seen great deals on some old dodge trucks. i think an 87 had 30k miles, plow, garaged mint, $3500. seen quite a few cheap. if you want to venture out this way i can drop you the ads. looks good.

if always thought about adding an old 78 ford to my fleet becuase i love the old trucks. reliabitly is my only drawback. ive also thought about buying a 97ish powerstroke and putting the 78 body on it for the best of both worlds. it would still cost less than 25% of my 08

I actually have less problems with the older trucks than with the new ones. There is some common thinking that old trucks are not reliable. Old isn't the same as worn out. The best part of the older units is if they do break, it is usually something that we can fix and have it back on the job without the need for some fancy computer to tell us what is wrong. jmo

ive never seen so many nice old dodge's until you.... never saw many to begin with, now i see great deals on them everywhere. you must have opened my eyes to the dodge side.

did i mention my 08 superduty was in again, new radiator, new pulleys, fixed the rattles in my dash, have a new squeak..... my 00 superduty went it today for a bad wheel bearing, hasnt been taht bad but apparantly it ate up my axle shaft, im looking $1100 for that , $300 for sway bar kit...... $165 tranny service, and more its going to be $2000, thats cost on an old dodge

hey metro how long do you hold on to these older trucks?....do you replace them after a set number of years or miles or do you just use them until a major componet goes on them like a tranmission?

I generally run them until they start looking really rough. Rust is the biggest reason they go.

Good combo. If it were an auto trans I would tell you to sell it. The autos from 94-02 are junk STAY AWAY! All you need to do is run it. I use all these trucks. If you notice, they all get lettering.

I'm so jumping over the pond and stealing one of your trucks LOL Just kidding but your fleet looks amazing, BTW your the reason I can't find any old dodges LOL.

My 94 Auto is a 1500 2wd and it's trans was just replaced at 172K it was a old farm truck before I had it. It's really hit or miss, I lucked out. Its a little rusty but not bad. Its Dodge's brighter red like yours but its getting lettered with gold lettering instead. Its my first truck so I won't let it go. I'm actually going to be painting my ford the same color as the dodge.

But hey I don't know if they are still there but over in milwaukee on craigslist they had some older dodge 4500 and 5500 dumps with plows.
