I just purchased a 6x12 open trailer, I will be towing my new Craftsman Lawn Tractor (Yes I know) 42" cut 20hp, 1 Trimmer rack with 2 spots, and a blower.....What else do I need? I was thinking a trash can (how do you tie it down?) maybe 2 5gal gas cans (again how do you tie them down?) anything else I need? I will be mowing 1 day a week......thanks for the info

I always take a broom, flat shovel, trash can, rake. I guess it all depends on what your doing that day. Good question though.

i had the same curiousity too. another person suggested straps which would work after suggesting business cards were for noobs.
welding plates to the trailer to bolt a square in the corner for it slide into might be more convenient. probably could rig up something to hold mowers in place if really motivated without having to strap, such as a wheel stops that could be lowered and raised. i'd weld plates to bolt so that it could removed for other formats.

hey, bungie cord was just convenient for trying down in the suv. i've already worked it over though to where everything has a place and stays put.

What he said plus, spare tire, 2 cycle oil, sprayer, water, roundup, blower, extra fuel, blades. Nothin worse than a tire blowing out with no repair shop. Which ever items you think you will need in the group.

A good investment i made was putting a 4 sided mesh box on the front of my trailer. I put 2 gas cans, hedge trimmers, Chain saw, trash bags, long pruners and the baggers for the 21" mowers in there. I can lock the doors with locks when i have to step away.
(how do you tie it down?) maybe 2 5gal gas cans (again how do you tie them down?)
I now LOCK all my stuff down. Got ripped off a full 5 gal. can awhile back. That was the only thing I didn't have cable locked.

Whats this license for roundup? We don't use it but I was assuming since you can buy it at home depot you don't need a license to spray a spot weed killer.

If you guys put all your cans and such on the trailer, what do you throw in your truck beds if anything. I have a couple old milk crates in the pick-up bed which hold all my 2 cycle stuff. Mix, trimmer line, extra heads, etc.. Also, I have never needed to strap down gas cans on the trailer they usually stay put. Trash Can will stay put with a bungee..

watch when loading that trailer too much. Your little S10 may not stop it that well.
We run a 6x12 most of the time. Just easier than the 7x16 to get around sub divisions and such.
I got a tool box across the front of it. 21 push mower sideways behind the tool box then our z master comes up the rear. We installed a gorrilla lift when we extended the gate. I screwed 2x4 boards down to the trailer bed so we know EXACTLY where the mowers rear wheels sit when its balanced.
We also installed racks and just welded a nice piece of angle iron in between them and then cut holes in the angle iron with a plasma torch to hold shovels and rakes and broom and hoe ect. Works well for us. I got a hard folding cover on the bed of truck. Chainsaw, blower and hedge trimmers go in there and get locked down.
We carry a trash can and 5 gallon buckets for trash and thoes little trash grabber things. I usually lay the trash can flat in the bed of the truck and close the cover. If you use a 30 gal trash can or something I reccomend you use bags. Just makes disposal quick and easy.
3rd year with this set up and only thing I would change is swap to a 14 ft so we didnt have to yank the sulky if we take a wb. Also I would get a lowboy or dovetailed trailer with a nice short gate. This big gate has alot of issues. The gorrilla lift makes it light but im sure im getting some wind drag on it.

What ever you need to do your work ( and you got a lot of good lists here) but be sure you LOCK everything All the time.
Do a YAHOO search on landscape storage racks and you will see ways to tie down and lock just about anything.
Be very careful with that truck It was not made to tow much (OR STOP)

You will get into a lot of trouble spraying for profit. Each state has its own lic. requirements and fines for improper applications and such. Get lic. Test is not hard in most cases. Depending on where you live you can't spray pesticides/herbicides unless you own the property (Home Depot homeowner types) or are a lic. applicator. There are sooooo many threads on on this. Search from the green bar towards the top of the page and you will find a ton of info. There is also a Pesticide forum on here as well.

After you see the carnage of everything on the trailer lifting off the deck on every bump you will start to tie it all down. We use enclosed and we strap everything down tight.

As far as your larger trash cans go, a good place I've found is on the toungue of the trailer. They dont clutter the rest of the stuff in your trailer and it makes for easy dumping. Just make sure theyre strapped on real good!

there is no carnage its a mower or 2, a big ass rubbermaid type tote full of crap, 4 gas cans, and a tool box, its not gonna hurt anyhting, it might move around but who cares, its not going anywhere.

to add..should you ever have a front end collision..there's some G-forces at work that just may send that tractor right into your cab,and right into the buttocks!..there was this accident a year or so ago where this guy just had his quad in the bed with just brakes on and ropes to hold it..it decappataded(sp?) his head right off as he collided with the bigger truck..i smell someone playing a little Russian roulette with daily flukes..it only has to happen once, just like when i had a rather small front ender 10yrs ago..my car stop quick..my 50lb Boom box did'nt..pushed the two rear seats down and pushed me and my girlfriend up into the windshield, this was only at 30mph..imagine speed limit..lesson that day..always bolt down whatever can become a projectile!!!! & !!!

No, I did not even think about the mower, Start with what you have but know that you need to upgrade ASAP.
I just know you are right around the corner from the girls in hoop skirts so I joked about the sign "on the trailer"

Roundup IS a pesticide.
And yeah, take the advice of these guys, and tie your stuff down. It took one big bump and watching my mower go straight up 2 feet and come crashing back down on the trailer to wake me up on that one. Everything gets tied down now. Aside from being a potential hazard in an accident, it can't be good on the equipment.

Is it not a herbicide? Ive never read anywhere that it is used for controling insects/pests. Also on I found: "Glyphosate is the primary ingredient in Monsanto's popular herbicide, Roundup.". Where do you find roundup being a pesticide?

Roundup is a pesticide.
Plants growing where they are not wanted is a WEED, which is classified as a pest.
Herbicide is a type of pesticide, so is fungicide, rodenticide, algicide, etc.....

Ah I see. Thanks for the info. Im all up for being legit but theres no way im going to waste a second or a dime to get a license to spray roundup 2 or 3 times a week. Maybe if I was doing massive use but IMO waste of time and money.

Quite correct. They are all under the general classification of "pesticide".
I called the Ministry of Environment and they told me that, without a licence, :nono: I can't even apply granular fertilizer if it contains any weed killer, insect killer or even crabgrass control. And the fine can be in the thousands. :hammerhead: So be careful.
As far as what I carry with me,.....everything....I have an enclosed trailer. it's like a garage on wheels.:cool2:

Same here, I just click the handbrake and git it. Then again, I can set a wheelbarrow right side up in the trailer and it never moves, I'm real easy on the throttle and I keep a distance (at least 4 seconds from the car(s) in front) and hang back, way back.
////////////
Way I see things, if you hit someone in the rear, you were following too closely.
If you have to hit your brakes hard, you are still following way too close.
Try a 4+ second distance, you'd be amazed at the ROOM you have to slow down, if you even need to do much besides easing off the throttle, I hardly ever use my brakes, just let off the gas, improves mpg too. Besides, there's no competition for last place, everybody's always trying to be first on race day, so let them fend amongst themselves while you stay out of traffic's way.
Last but not least, I have 2 foot solid steel sides on my trailer... The worst bit is if I forget to set the handbrake and it slams into the front, but it has never even come close to coming off the trailer, that's a bit for those low sides, never bent a caster either thou there's some rust where the paint gets scraped, that I hate.

still though, should some sort of deer or something dash out, what a red face picking up all this lawn stuff while cars have to put up with slowing down for going "strapless"..or maybe this is only in the city driving ,then much less concerned.

What about if someone hits you. They are responsible for the accident but if there is no due diligence with transporting your lawn equipment by it being tied down it could get more messy than it needs to be - and besides some innocent person could get hurt. It seems like cheap insurance to tie things down. It makes me think of how many trailers I see flying down a highway with equipment on the back. Never thought about it before - I wonder if everyone ties stuff down?
