We started off with 30 + inches of rain in 12 weeks, then we glide into a scorching heat wave! Crabgrass, dollar spot & red thread are having a grand old time. Bring on autumn!

also seeing more nutsedge than ever before as well.
{but i never had that in my lawn before..........yes maam, but you have it now....... but never had it before I hired your company.......yes maam, we secretly come out here in the middle of the night to plant all sorts of junk just to tick you off and make us look bad......... well, is there anything you can do for it?......sure thing maam, but that'll cost extra........}
blah blah blah

well, we're at the half way point so its all down hill from here?
I'm ready to pass over autumn and get straight into winter

I feel your pain! Here in New York, we are facing an enormous problem with crabgrass. These unpredictable weather conditions which basically made the pre-emergent worthless are not making the job here very easy. Its hard to tell the customer that there isn't a whole lot we can do to get rid of the amount of crabgrass that we are finding!

Pretty bad up here too. Tons of rain and now VERY hot and humid. I have seen a little red thread and a TON on crab grass. I'll be glad when this year is over.:dizzy: :dizzy:

I think at least some of this nutsedge invasion is coming from wild bird seed mix, im going to look into it when i retun from vacation next week.

All sedges are directly tied to the amount of moisture present. Nutsedge (both purple and yellow) are shallow rooted and love areas like around irrigation heads, gutter downspouts and HVAC condensation pipes. Not as much rain as up North this year but crabgrass is going psycho in some of my lawns...especially the ones I treated with Dimension as a control/test instead of using Barricade like the previous 12 years. Treated all 20 of them in the 2nd week of March and crab started popping up in early July. Most were treated on the same day as one of my tech's treated the next door neighbor with Barricade. My chemical supplier has declined an offer to come look at these lawns but suggested apps.of Drive to control (went with Acclaim extra). Think I'll "dance with the girl I brought to the ball" next year entirely.

I have low to moderate issues with crabgrass on lawns I've had for several years. On ones newly aquired, its a major problem. much of it is beyond 3rd tiller too!!! I think it just happened over night. I'm going to a higher rate next year and telling folks that if they want good control, they will need two apps here. Between trying to keep up on my scheduled rounds, the rain, high temps, stressed turf, extra work on existing folks like drive apps, and the calls for new customers, I feel like I'm drowning and can't float.
I had a job the other day that I sprayed 3/4 acre liquid fert on this rediculous hill, 70lbs ornamental fert, 250lbs 32-0-10, 1 acre drive 75, 5 back packs(20 gallons) hort oil on mugos, and about 2 dozen roses for adult jap beetles. I was just glad to get it behind me so I could move on. Don't get me wrong buisness has been good, just the wether has been a bear to work around.

Do you still get good green up when you do a split app or are you using a liquid? I am using dimension with fert and not sure if the customer would be happy if the look isn't like the others. Which is all they care about until the crabgrass comes. Also we usually put down talstar in our second and third rounds so I would have to bump that out to 3 and 4. Do you see a difference in your cost when you do the split app?

Lawns are looking better here now, we seem to be past the worst of it. Two more weeks and fall madness will be upon us! we are seeking an inch or two of rain and we will start the fall aeratons.

Looks like your wish may come true. They are calling for up to an inch of rain in my area. Hope it holds together and you get some too. It's been a crazy weather year here. Lots of rain and humidity in June and July have really fueled the problem. I have crabgrass and nutsedge in yards that have never been a problem. Most of my customers are understanding when you explain why they are having problems. The PBI Gordon Q4 is working nicely!!! I would recommend it to anyone that is using Drive 75 and a 3-way herbicide mix. Drive is a pain to mix up compared to the Q4. The Sulfentrazone in Q4 is an added bonus that helps w/ nutsedge control.

What are you paying for the Q4? I went to TSC to get a price (they carry PBI Gordon products but would have to order it), but the guy never called me back.

We are having a hard time with crab grass this year and it is very very dry. Lawns are burnt to a crisp in places. :cry:

Ive seen it at 458-490 a case of 5 gallons.

At the 2.6 oz rate per thousand, it has been working well. It costs the same or less than drive , and covers more.

I was quoted $91 per gallon so I ordered 1 gallon to give it a try. Got a call from my supplier when it came in and he said his supplier sent a 2.5 gallon jug. I told him I only wanted 1 gallon so he cut me a deal on the 2.5 gallon jug. I ended up paying $205 for the 2.5 jug.
