Anyone up for putting on a rodeo in the Northeast around October 1, 2001?

If figure there could be two types of competition. 1. wide area
striping with 60-62" mowers and a 2. residential contest with up to
52" machines.

It would need to be held where there are a bunch of lush dormant (not in play) blue grass baseball and softball fields in one general area.

The residential contest could consist of lining off 100' square blocks
in which a couple of wooden frames could be used to string trim around and then moved to the next block. A sheet of plywood could be used to simulate an area to be blown free off clippings. The time it takes to complete will be part of the final score.

The people who enter will be the judges. You could be give a ballot where you cannot vote for yourself.

Turf Mag you should take this idea and run with it.

I would LOVE to just mow open areas like ball fields! Those would be a piece of cake! I'll make a run for it. Just where is Anthracite Valley? Up in the depressing coal regions I suppose. Is that the town or an area? I can get away for a day trip around then.

Maybe we could Truck/Trailer pool to Anthracite Valley. Your truck my trailer, your exmark my dixie. I believe it is in the East Stroudsburg area. I usually go up that way in the fall anyway have a place we could probably stay.

When your making $50+ per hour in a low cost of living area
it's like heaven on earth.

The ideal site to get the max amount of interest would be north of
Phila near the interchange of the turnpikes.

Chip,

Sounds like a plan! How's that HONKIN' Honda doing! Good I hope!

Lawrence,

Didn't mean it to sound degrading. Sorry if it sounded that way. It just seems that everytime I think of coal country, I think of Transylvania and that whole depressing scene. Its just a shame, as that area used to be really booming 50 yrs ago! Now with OIL the way it is, maybe its time for coal to make a comeback?

I think for a true competition, a sole manufactuer should provide one peice of equipment for all aspects of the competition. A ZTR, 21", edger, trimmer, and a blower. Give the contestants 30 min. practice time on each. Then hold the competition! that way everyone has the same advantages and disadvantages. All judgements would be on time and quality.

How does West Chester, PA sound?

The head of the PHila PGMS is the groundskeeper at West Chester State.

He might be game for a lawn mowing beauty contest.

We need a good size space on a Saturday that will have thick bluegrass turf that was cut seven days prior.

There are some insurance issues that have to be addressed.

I THINK EVERYBODY SHOULD BRING THE HOSS THEY RIDE EVERY DAY.
THEN WE CAN REALLY GET THE SCOOP ON ALL THE EQUIPMENT TALKED ABOUT HERE.WISH YOU GUYS WOULD WORK IT OUT FOR THE BOYS DOWN SOUTH.
WHICH PROMPTS THE IDEA OF SOUTHEASTERN FIELD DAY OR RODEO AS STONE
CALLS IT.

FYI West Chester State is West Chester University, have an account nearby (closer to white manor c.c.) where there is a 6 or 7 acre open field that may be available.

Jim at TURF Magazine here. I also think this is a great idea. What's unblieveable is that last week we started planning an event -- and we even called it a rodeo ... for the mid-west.

Northeast would be great for us, because we are located in Vermont. Southeast should be on the ticket too because they have growing grass a lot deeper into the fall than we do.

How's this: Perhaps we should plan SEVERAL such events in the coming year or two -- hit the South, North, Central, Mountains, West, etc. A tour!

I use the lawnsite folks as an indicator of what our industry really wants. If you are enthusiastic about this (as you seem to be) push me on it ... I have the staff to pull it off ... and you would be the first ones in line (which would help me attract other participants and some manufacturing or distribution sponsors).

Let's do this!

I'm in, but we need to get it so we can show those ride only boys how much efficient a WB can be! ;) Also, I may have an option or two for fields which we can use in the West Chester general area.

Me and scraper should be interested. Me and him live around that area and would be expected to show. Let's show them how we use our wb's. lol
