Found a 96 ford f150 2wd reg cab, 8ft bed, auto, air with 68k original miles. Dude is asking $2900. Seems to be in tip top shape. Good deal?

I was wrong, it's a '96 F250 2WD, Straight 6, Auto, No AC, 8ft, bedliner, never towed anything, Interior is ok, seat is all messed up but its fine cuz he has a cover on it. Drives great, only 68k miles on it. $2,800.

The straight 6 is a great engine. I would love for a 4wd tho. Any rust? with only 68k it had sat for a while at some point.

Ya thats what I was thinking (sitting for a while) I would love for it to be 4x4 but I think this will be a good starter truck for me. I went over and gave him a $100 deposit, told him my mechanic has to look over it.

It'll be a good truck for you. Just be careful of mud and snow. It will be real light in the back end and will want to spin. I always think that 4wd is a better starter vehicle for someone. It allows them to learn how to drive in snow, but not have to deal with spinning out on every corner. Now, we you get experinced, it is fun to try to spin it out!:dancing: Good move having your mechanic check it over. It is always a difining moment. It could be perfect, it could need $4k in work.

By far not my first truck. Had about 4 2wd's and drove them in plenty of snow. But thanks. Wanted to clear that up. Wont be driving it much over the winter. Will be garaged. Mainly used for starting out small solo lco.

That sounds like an excellent work truck, I've had 3 trucks with the 300 I-6 in it and it is a bombproof engine!
For towing mowers or a tractor/bobcat occasionally you'll be fine. You will be pleased with that truck for aroudn town driving, all of it's torque and horsepower is developed at a relatively low rpm compared to V8's.

Yep, I got it checked out this afternoon and it's very solid. I gave him a deposit and I'll prob pick it up mon or tues. Now all I need is a trailer.
