View Full Version : Chainsaw Clutch Removal?
Can someone direct me to where I can purchase a tool to remove the clutch from a Sears chainsaw? It looks like it has two rods, approx. 1/4" dia. which will help turn the clutch off.
Thanks in advance.

Bailey's has them . http://www.baileys-online.com Scott
I have tried the punch and hammer but this one isn't budging!! I checked out the Bailey's web site but they don't show and pics. Since I need a 2-pronged one, I'll order the $7.95 tool. I think thats the one.
Thanks for the help. :waving:
Just a thought - is the clutch on with a left hand thread? Are you turning the correct way?

Chain saw clutches are regular thread if not they would spin off when you ran the unit. Try a touch of heat from the gas wrench if available, are you replacing the clutch or just removing it?

All five of my chainsaw clutches have left hand threads . The normal running direction keeps the clutch tight . Scott

Use a hammer & punch, Don't be suprised if the clutch comes apart (weights&spring) It will go back together no problem once you get it figured out.
Don't forget to grease the needle bearing.
It's left hand thread!
Look for the little arrow pointing clockwise and "off"

You might want to pick up a nut & bolt and practice for a while:dizzy:

Sorry Jim,:o It was too close to my bedtime. Uncross eyes, drink coffee, I'm awake now and see my mistake. :hammerhead:
LHT nuts/bolts are removed by turning in a clockwise direction..
Bad day at the office and homefront kept brain from engaging properly.

I think it must be sumpin' in the water. it has been a b1tch of a day for me today.
Also, those blasted left hand set-ups, well, one in particular, still caused me a lot of grief on my farm tractor till I finally, _FINALLY_ made the mental connection, just this year. You see, the turnbuckle type "extension arm(?)" on my 3 point hitch uses a jamb nut to lock the length into place, and I could never remember if it was on the left hand or right hand thread. And I mean it really _DID_ lock in place, if you got it tight enough to hold at all. So,,, the connection I finally made, is that, I could more easily remember to rotate jamb nut such that it would "seem" to tighten against it's mate, in order to loosen it.
What that boils down to is that it is, in fact, on the LHT side.
Hey, give me a break, I'm old and don't remember quite like I used to.
