View Full Version : How many back you mowers on the trailer

I think when I got my first ZTR, a Grasshopper it recomended backing up the ramp so I have always backed my ZTR's onto the trailer and have a chock to stop the mower where the balance is correct. I also strap it. I notice most people drive them on front wheels first. I have a single axle trailer and only haul one at a time. Any body else do this? I may have just imagined it but I was sure I read in the Grasshopper directions to do this for some reason (saftey)?

I back mine on primarily because I can balance the trailer better that way, but I also think it's safer to drive forward off the trailer....

I back mine onto the trailer, too.

The WB goes on first and the the rider- both facing forward. I've seen guys with Walkers back them on- maybe because the hopper is full and it might tip over backwards going up the ramp? Some guys will turn the mowers sideways to make more room on the trailer.

We back one of the Walker's next too another one driven straight on which allows em side by side up front ... so we can get the dixie on behind them ...nice tight set up on a 16x6.5 trailer

My 36 and pusher goes up front, then I Back my Z on. So all the weight is on the trailor axle. If I park my Z forward I get trailor sway. Not alot, just sometimes.

i put the fastrak on sideways and then i back on the super z

I THINK the reasons they want you to back it on the trailer because it is not safe to go foward on a slope because it may flip backwards. Just my 2 cents.

I only back the mowers on when Im bored.

I can back a mower on faster then I can back off.:)

Backing can result in problems....like backing over something in the trailer that might not be exactly in the place you put it.

Always back my ZTR on first.. the trailer seems to ride better that way.

36 goes on sideways up front (deck under the cage with hadles as close to it as I can get it without hitting) then I drive my 60 exmark lazer straight on. If there is a little grass in the bags they pinch a little if I back it on. The bags scape the ground some baking it off but I'm not going to tear them backing off like I would backing it on. 16ft x 102in wide trailer 2 axles

The only reason for backing a ZTR onto the trailer is for balancing purposes.
Like say if you had a small mower up front you use very little.
Then I could see backing on... this way you get the heavier part of the ZTR farther forward on the trailer more towards the middle instead of right on the tall end.

Back it on.
I've always pulled mine on.
Never really thought about it, but backing UP a ramp with a ZTR isn't always that easy to do (traction wise). I guess that's why I do it the way I do.

Well, With my bagger that stays on the Cub, I like to drive it on forward. And, I dont have enough traction to back it on...

I have always back on. I tryed going forward when I fist bought one and it poped a wheely. It also balances out the weight better.
Pop-a-wheelie!!! Wow...what mower was this? Talk about an unsafe weight distribution.
