2004 Tiger Cub with 19 HP Kawasaki will not start. Both plugs have good fire but are dry. I check all fuel line and fuel flows good into the carburetor. I washed it last night but it ran fine when I loaded it back up. I check the 2 20amp fuses near the control panel and they are fine. Checked all connections and blow them out with air compressor. Still nothing. Any suggestions? Help. I need it tomorrow.

can you get it to run by adding a small cap full of gas through the carb or starting fluid? If it starts and runs for a second or two then you have a fuel problem. If it doesn't fire or back fires then maybe it's the flywheel key.

First check to see if you have power on the fuel shut off solenoid. You may have ran the fuel out of bowl loading it back up and if fuel solenoid got unplugged when washing it off then you will not get fuel . If you have power to it then make sure it is operating properly.:dizzy:

It's firing fine. How do you check the safetys?

How do I do this?
On the bottom of the carb bowl will be a solenoid. Make sure there is a wire hooked up to the bottom of it.................

Don't have a diagram of your engine to reference but normally the fuel solenoid is located at the bottom of the fuel bowl on carb. If this is the case there should be a wire lead with a connector there where you can use a meter to check for voltage when key is turnned to on position. If you have voltage (12v)there then while switch is still on touch the connectors back together while listenning for a click from the solenoid.

It has a green and white wire going into the solenoid. They are hooked up. I will check a meter.

disconnect the fuel solenoid. run a wire to the solenoid from the positive post of the battery. can you feel and here the solenoid working? leave it connected and try to start the engine. what happens now? is there fuel in your tank/s

One of the two wires is ground so make sure you connect power to the correct one or you could create real problems,i/e fire or direct short.

Here is a picture. Both tanks have fuel in them. Obviously the black is the ground. Not sure how I can run a wire to this.

Ok, with switch in on position unplug that connector and listen for a click from solenoid. If no click check for voltage to the green wire.

OK, the solenoid does not click when I unplug the green wire with the switch on but there is 11.75 volts going to the green wire. Does this mean the solenoid is bad? If so, do they just go bad all at once like that?

Yes they can. If you have a manual fuel shut off , turn it off. Disconnect the wires to solenoid and remove it. There could be some crud built up on the plunger. Spray it off with carb cleaner and spray into the base of carb as well. While you have it off plug solenoid back up and turn switch on and off while checking for operation of plunger. Be careful not to damage bowl gasket and O-ring or other sealing devices on solenoid.

also you need to make sure the black lead is grounded.

Well here is the scoop. I took out the solenoid and plugged the hole with a screw with the same threads and it started right up. I will get a replacement solenoid and that should fix it. Thanks everyone.

Does Kohler use this solenoid on their units, I never seen this before, but guess maybe I missed it?

I priced that solenoid today at 2 dealers and it was $94.
