When you guys registered with ccr, did you have to enter alot of info.
Such as:
General info?
corporate info?
goods and services?
Financial?
Points of contact?
irs consent?
No one wants to answer this question? Did anyone register with the ccr.gov website?

It was a while ago that i filled out my info on the ccr website, but you just fill out the info that is relavent to the business you do. It is my understanding that info is for venders and goverment people to view when looking into your request for either credit or submitting a proposal for a goverment contract. Leaving some questions un-answered will not affect much, unless you leave alot of lines blank alot of creditors will ask you for more info. If you don't know....just leave it blank. I think i only filled out the simple info, and it didn't affect me. hope this helps ya, good luck.

You do not need a dnb # for staples or office depot. Do not apply for shell or sunoco until you have 2 reporting on your reports.

applied for my duns number online. didnt hear anything for a few days so i called up and got my number. Got approvals from staples and office depot for business credit. Then the next day, I got ANOTHER duns number via email from my original request I submitted online......so now I have 2. Is this bad? Can/Should I get rid of one?
What should my next step be as far as building credit?
I am purchasing some advertising/marketing stuff from staples & office depot to get the credit reporting started.

anyone get 2 DUNS #'s by mistake? I did the internet app.....didnt hear for a few days so I called to follow up. I got my number over the phone and have since been approved by staples and office depot.
However, a few days later I got an email with another DUNS # (whicH I assume came from my original request). Is this a bad thing? I know some on here followed a similar pattern to me and were under the assumption that only 1 number was assigned to their business.
Anyone encounter anything like this?

i've come across this a few times at local material shops and others......
How come on a "business credit app" they ask for a personal guarantee?
They ask all your biz info and then on the back, I'm asked to provide my personal info (ss# included) and to sign to personally guarantee the credit account.
I feel like this defeats the purpose of separating your personal stuff and your biz stuff.
Anyone have some knowledge to drop on this one?

One of the benefits is that it does not show up on your personal credit. That way you do not look like you have more personal debt.
There are other benefits but this is just one of them.

they want your personal info because if your business doesnt pay the bill, they want to come after you, if your business crumbles, do you want to be liable for everything, heck no

i understand the companies want you to sign the personal guarantee incase your biz sh*ts the bed. But how does that over-ride the power of establishing an LLC or some other type of corp in which your biz and personal assets are "supposed" to be completely seperate entities?
amtrucker---are you saying that if you sign a personal guarantee on a credit app (including supplying your ssn #), they don't check your personal credit?

i applied for the staples and office max about a month or so ago. i have only made a purchase on the staples and have not received the invoice for it yet. i applied for home depot this week, figured it doesnt show up on my credit report so what the heck. they asked for how much credit i wanted, i figured on a $2000 to start. i wonder what they would have given me? i have had a duns # for a long time, just nothing reporting to it.

they check your personal credit, so the inquire shows up, but it is just not reported there like a consumer credit account. so when you go to get a home loan they don't see all of you business debt and deny you the loan.

I tried to apply for the DUNS number online again today for the second time. The first time I did it, one of the D&B guys called me a few days later. The guy who started this thread said don't answer the phone when they call but apparently you need to in order to get the account set up. I guess this time when they call, I will answer. I don't have much of a nest egg in my account for emergency expenses and it would be nice to have the security of knowing that if the funds in my business checking are low and I need a certain tool or materials before starting a job, that I can just run to Home Depot and pick up whatever. A gas card and Staples would be nice too. Anyone got any suggestions. Am I doin something wrong?

Hi All,
This is my first post.I am a newbie here.I will post my intro in the appropiate thread.I just wanted to add my two cents here.I read this entire thread last night.Good job Will...
I am also a memeber of a awesome thread called Creditboards.com..
For those of you that are new to business credit you might want to pay that site a visit. When you get there go to the Business Credit Thread..They also have a Thread for personal Credit Building. They list tons of revolving and net 30 accounts you can use to build your credit.
Will has guided you guys step by step..Follow his lead!!!
Here are some tips for building biz credit.
1.Do not put your ssn on biz apps.
2.Do not call duns & brad they will lie and try to sell you creditbuilder
3.get your D&B FROM THE GOVERNMENT SITE CCR posted earlier in the thread
4.Build biz credit as a some form of corporation or LLC
Not a Sole Prop..Always seek legal advice if you do not understand this business stuff.
I look forward to learning from you guys,I am glad I FOUND THIS AWESOME SITE.

www.smartbusinessreports.com
That is the experian website. They are the equifax of business. Its not free, but worth it. I pay 12.95 (I think) a month. You will see all of your credit lines, charts, predictions of your credit, and your score. At least try it for a month.
I saw this thread within days of it starting and have read every post. Think of the time you waste on the net. Just spend a day and read it start to finish. I had a duns # for a contract I have. So I started the way the trhead says to. I got off depot and staples. I then got sams and lowes. Shell called and had a pre-aproved card for me. Have pitney bowes and HD MC.
I will be honest. I thought Willretireat40 was full of crap. I thought it would take years to get the credit he said you could get, but he is right on about EVERYTHING. One thing I do, is use the cards every month. Use them and pay them NEVER LATE.
My duns hasnt updated since dec. You just nneed the #, then forget about them. They just try to sell you what you can get for FREE by reading this thread and doing what your told to do. Want a short cut? Click the first page of the thread, click on willretire's name, click on "veiw all post by him", then read all the posts he has made on this thread. It will be time well spent.

I called the # he posted (already had a duns number, not sure how) 5 min with rep on phone had my number (no sales attempts). In the last 24 Hours have received number and a line with staples and office depot. No personal info required. Thanks for the pointers.

Congrats It's a boy!I did have to sign a personal gaurantee, but it was just my signature, no ss# in the whole process. Its a 3/4 ton deisel, my first deisel and it has a ton of power. Funny, its an 08, I guess they will soon be out a year early, its only may and the next year is out.

But they never asked for my DUNS number... I did put my taxpayer ID number in the box on the online app, do you use the duns number instead of that? I guess I'm confused as to why I need the number if they didn't ask for it.

unfortunately you have to read the fine print. they usually make it so small you need a magnifying glass, right above or below where they ask you to sign seems to be a popular spot

I went to Lesco today to apply for commercial charge card. One of the reps took my app and started processing my info in the database. I guess when he was finished it prompted him to call the customer service dept.
While talking to the customer service rep he asked me to fill out my personal info to get a higher credit limit. When I told him I didn't want to do that he told the rep to go on with out it.
The other rep was there and he overheard what was going on and started mouthing off saying that no credit card company will every extend credit to a sole prop. without personal info and I must to fill it out. Again I declined. He then took the phone from the other rep and started talking to the rep about my application trying to spread his ignorance to the customer service rep. She must have explained to him the difference between business and personal credit because he had this stupid look on his face. He quickly realized he didn't know what he was talking about an gave the phone back to the other rep to finish the process.
Afterward the rep that started the process told me I was approved for $750 and I'll receive my card in the mail in about 2 weeks.
I have never had good experiences at Lesco. I just went in today to see if i would be able to get business credit. I know if I do us there product I'll just order online, I wont go in that store anymore.

I'll let you guys know about the GE equipment financing for mowers as soon as I here from my Dealer.

For key you have to have a strong Experian business file. That is they only one that they check. For the credit card you file out the app and cross out the PG section. Fax it in but do not call to ask for an update. You will recieve something it the mail. May be a card or denial letter. Remember you have to have a strong file meaning at least 6 reporting and a score of 70 or above.
To do the equipment finance you have to have a strong EX file also. There they dont even have a PG section on the app. Fill it out and fax it in. You should hear something in about 2 hours. If not then just call in.

You will have to call DNB and dispute it. They should take it off but they will most likely erase the whole trade line.

every time i call to get the duns #they want me to pay for it,how do you get around that? The duns # is free. They want you to pay for extras. I am not sure but I think what your paying for is for them to report other creditors on your report. But its not needed, all of the companies that are given here report, and they are alll easy to get evan without any credit history. I beleive duns people used to be used car salesmen the way they fast speak and double talk. They used to call me a few times a week and I asked what I got if I paid for it, and never really got a solid awnser, just kind of figured it out on my own.

No Tony, infact its similar to a personal credit report. Some companies may or may not report to both. In the right corner you should see a green report or percentage, that gives you an indication on how you will pay your future credit.

Hey guys! I have read this thread through, and have just registered with Dunn & Bradstreet, cr.gov, and georgia.gov(for EIN). I have to wait 2 weeks for EIN due to how georgia.gov is set up. I thought everyone could benefit from the following link: www.bcscredit.com/articles/no-personal-guarantee.php
It's somewhat helpful. When I get my EIN, I'll let you know how it goes when applying for credit. By the way, I found out that the sooner one pays off their balance before it is due, the higher their paydex score will be. Later.

OK, I didn't exactly think about that, but I'll put this question to you or anyone who can answer it...
If I provide a PG, I'm assuming that they get a SS# and run an inquiry into my personal credit, correct?
In any case, I just am not sure I'd want to do that, even if it WAS tied to my business credit. If something happens, and the business goes under and can't pay it's bills(hopefully that wouldn't happen but you never know), I do not want it to affect my personal credit which I have worked real hard to rebuild after I wrecked it several years ago.

do not sign a personal guarentee unless your willing to dump your personal credit in the event you lose your business. it doesnt take long to gain these items and once they start coming it will happen quicker and quicker.

When I filled out the app for my home depot m/c it said I had to print out and fill in a personal gaurantee form and fax it to them. It had ss# and everything on it. I actually forget to do it and still got the card. And when I bought my truck I had to sign a personal gaurantee. All it was was a form saying I was gauranteeing payment. No ss# or anything.
To awnser your question, they cant run your credit legally without consent, your just singing a gaurantee of payment. And ford motor doesnt even ask for anything but a signature.

So in essence a PG will not affect an individual's personal credit, as long as no SS# or other personal info is given?

Hmm, that's interesting.
So in essence a PG will not affect an individual's personal credit, as long as no SS# or other personal info is given?I think, not 100% sure, that it is just a way to assure payment. Say 50boys inc gets a loan and goes under, they are out the money. But if Mr. 50boy gaurantees payment, then they can sue him for the unpaid balance. I do know that my truck loan doesnt show on my personal creidt report, but its on my business report.

there are "hard" and "soft" inquiries.. soft inquiries dont even show up to anyone but you on your report.
hard inquiries affect score for 2 years. a bunch of hard inquiries in 2 weeks isnt as bad as one every 3 months because they assume your just shopping for a car loan or whatever.

Once you have the duns # forget they exist. Go to
www.smartbusinessreports.com
That is the experian website. They are the equifax of business. Its not free, but worth it. I pay 12.95 (I think) a month. You will see all of your credit lines, charts, predictions of your credit, and your score. At least try it for a month.
I tried that and I am not listed on experian.. I have my duns and did the verification for duns.. got approved for staples 750. and office depot 250.00
Any reason I am not showing up on experian?

Okay so I've completly read this thread about 3 times. I've registered for my duns # and I have it. I have not to this point gotten my experian stuff set up. I have received a Office Depot card for $250 (have not used yet). And have applied for the other lines of credit suggested for people just starting this process. But for some reason, aside from Office Depot, i'm hitting a huge block in the road and getting denials from staples, home dept, e.t.c. Why does it seem as if i'm the only one encountering this problem? I have an EIN, and a DNB? To make a long story short is there any other lines of credit you would suggest me trying.
I mean truthfully this thread is a for real lifesaver it seems to most of you, unfortunatly for me it's not gone the distance yet lol So any help right now would be greatly appreciated.

staples is the easiest, did you apply online, did you call in, they made just need to verify your info, home depot you need a paydex, get some net 30's and wait until you have 3-4 trades and a paydex before going to the box stores.

They keep on leaving me messages(caller ID is great) saying that I have had recent vendors inquiring on my DNB report in the last couple weeks and that it is VERY important that I call them back so they can go through and help explaine and manage my business credit. I know for a fact that my business lines are not jepordized in any way and my DNB report is showing nothing but positive reports.

Great thread!! I have always known about DnB and have had my number for a couple years. I've got net 30 accounts with lots of my suppliers. However, most of them don't report to DnB etc. This thread was useful in identifying companies that do report. Thanks willretire.
I saw this thread on Saturday and here it is Monday morning and I already have been approved for the following...
$1000 Staples
$1000 Office Depot
$4000 Home Depot
$10,000 Dell
I guess since I have had the DnB number for a while now, it helped. I have been wanting to get vehicles, equipment etc off of my personal credit to free up my credit for other things like investment property.

Meaning if you need to charge over the $7,500 up to $10,000 then you can. But when the bill comes it will have a monthly payment for the $7,500 with the total about of your over the limit amount.
