So what are landscapers going to do? Retaliate and not clean up any grass off the streets and driveways? Basically make the community look like trash... Then the homeowners will complain to the city and change the law?

Just start spraying the clippings off the areas with water and see what the evironmentalist wackos have to say about the noise of blowers then. Then they will complain we are wasting water to clean off the clippings.

Im pretty sure some lowballer will come out of the woods and offer not only a cheaper price, but clean up the driveways and walkways for free.. This law won't last long.

Since no more gas powered blowers, you'll be tripping over all the extensions cords laying all over the street. Maybe I'll move out there and become a lawyer for all the trip and fall lawsuits.

I took the family to Carmel in October two years ago to spend a week of vacation. The leaves were starting to fall from the oak trees that are throughout the community. On a morning walk I saw a commercial crew servicing a bank with 4 corded electric blowers all running at the same time. I asked the foreman/supervisior why do it like this? He said that Carmel had a gas-powered blower ban. It was louder than two gas-powered backpack blowers by far. THE BAN MADE THE PROBLEM WORSE.

You know we all got along fine before blowers and line trimmers. Yes I remember when these were just wishful thinking contraptions. I would hate to loose line trimmers but I could care less if they banned blowers.

That is the number one, bar none, biggest complaint I get from prospective clients when I am bidding. "Why can't they just bend down and pick up the leaves instead of blowing them into the next zip code?" It is also the biggest waste of labor in the business. When they are used correctly they are a time saver but they are rarely used correctly.

The noise is not the only thing people are complaining about its the particulates/dust that is stirred up by blowing silt you can't even see off the driveway into the air so we can all breathe it.

I find it funny that a city (East Palo Alto) who's only claim to fame was the highest homicide rate based on population in the U.S. 4 years in a row has time to worry about who is or isn't using gas leaf blowers. They tried it here in a yuppie sub-division of Oakland and I used to wave to cops as they passed by w/ a blower on my back. Bottom line is the people who enforce it don't care.

I don't know anywhere in the country where the difference is as dramatic as it is in East Palo Alto and West Palo Alto. Wine sipping Jag drivin' yuppies west of the 101, crack smokin' gang bangin' homicidal maniacs east of the 101

i saw some were that the fed gov is suing Palo Alto about that. no city can do that, only fed/ state gov can make emissions regulations or ban equipment.

Unbelievable.

I think I would have to start using an electric blower, powered by the loudest gas generator I could find.

It truly is nauseating that people are this petty and worried or even bothered by stupid stuff like leaf blowers... pathetic indeed.

I wouldnt use a broom....I would just leave all the clippings and junk right where they lay. If anyone has a complaint, tell them to take it up with the city....Or, sweep it with a broom and tack on an additional $40 per man hour to do it!:clapping:

On July 1, a ban on the use of gas-powered leaf blowers by consumers and commercial landscape professionals in residential areas went into effect.
Well.... read into it a bit.... Another rule that doesn't apply to hacks. Why do they get all the breaks:cry:

So do you have to show the cops a morning's worth of butchered yards to prove your'e not a professional and therefore are entitled to use a gas blower?

How about a propane powered pulse jet? That should circumvent the law (for a while) Anybody ever heard one of those:dizzy: It would sho move some leaves though.

I didn't even read the link, I could tell what it was about by the thread title and location of the link. I wonder if they let Harleys drive through Palo Alto? I'm not dissing them but, some if not most are incredibly loud.
I wonder how they expect someone to cleanup?
