Any advice on filling in the empty spots from last summer?

My lawn got burnt out last summer and is now spotty. Any advice on how to thicken it up and fill in those sparce, empty dry dirt spots? I was thinking about tupersan to control the crabgrass and slice seeding in early-mid april? I live in the Northeast. Thanks for any help.

rent a core aerater and go over your entire lawn twice with the aerater going in opposite directions. then over seed you lawn as heavily as possible. your right about putting down tupersan because that will control the crabbgras while allowing the grass seed to germinate.
