what did you do to make it run worth a damn? i bought mine earlier this year and it ran like a champ for about a month then it started bogging down. now it just pushes the grass over. the grass sees the 231 and starts laughing at it because its a wimp now. what did you do to make it run better? i've took the screen out of the muffler and i've cleaned the exhaust port. is there something i can do to the carb to make it run better? thanks.

mine has enough power to cut tru most stuff but it pales in comp to my older 230. i am going to try changing the muff soon to see what happens.

Muffler clogging in less than a year? I would guess carb problem. I am guessing that it doesn't have a jet adjustment? If not be sure filter is not clogged and if it isn't clean out carb.

has anyone tinkered with their trimmer and made it work better? (re-jetting the carb, rebuild kit, anything?)

I am getting about two seasons out of the 231's and they are toast. It looks like I am going to have to go for the 272. The EPA has screwed the trimmers all up to the point where we probably put out more emissions with the "cleaner" models, because we have to work them so much harder and longer or have to upgrade to larger engines to get the same resuilts we used to get out of the smaller ones??? It seem like the "dirt people" or "tree huggers" don't seem to think about these things too much before they screw them all up.
