Okay, I put in a bid of $625.00 to do the following work on removing some old landscape and putting down sod.

*Removal of 6 bushes
*Removal of about 5 cubic yards of fill dirt
*Removal of 1 small tree
*Removal of two landscape boulders
*Graded to rest of yard with a layer of new top soil
*About 31 sq yds of sod that cost me $100.00

I put in the bid of $625.00 and the lady said that was insanely high and that she only had only a budget of $250.00. I told her that $625 was my price and to call other companies to see if she could get a better price. What do you all think, was I fair or too high? Thanks.

So let me understand this correctly. Your price is insane because she has a small budget? $250 just about covers me to just show up to the house. :hammerhead:

Like Paul said, $ 250.00 wouldn't even cover the 6 removals. Move on, and for pete's sake, don't lower your price because you think you "need" this job. Thank her and move on..:waving:

Way to cheap can run off people too! This is an investment to most.

$250 should just about cover the price of the little sod job. You gave a more than fair price. She'll either call you back after getting prices or just not have the work done at all.

sounds like a 1000 dollar plus job to me........we put in 45 yds of sod the other day for more than half that price.....and thats the easy part of that the job.....

It's best not to think about it. You price was fair, almost too fair, and she still acted like you were overcharging her. At least you were polite about it. Mabey you'll get the job after she finds out that no one in there right mind would touch that for less than 600.

Reminds me of a bid I gave a few weeks ago, a man wanted 9 large taxus plants removed roots and all, haulaway and disposal. I quoted him $595 which most here will agree, was a little on the low side. Would have taken me a half day by myself (and a mini X).

Anyway he responded that that was outrageous. I politely asked him what he expected to pay...his response? $150.00.

Point is...it happens. Let it go. There will always be people who simply are out of touch with reality. Don't lower your price...let her wallow in her own ignorance.

Ditto that.

First, let's just discuss the part where you say, "*Removal of about 5 cubic yards of fill dirt". That's a decent amount of fill dirt, friend. Unless she owns a backhoe and is allowing you to use it and you have a 2 ton dump box on your truck or trailer, how you planning on doing even that for under $650?

I'd charge over $650 just for that alone!

In landscape, you don't have to think like lawncare. There is no need to panic, as there is less dumbass, wannabe cheepos... so chill, and add at least 500 bucks to the bill :)
