I have 20 lined up for next yr; had only ten this yr. But I'm only 16 so its not that bad.:cool2: If I could drive a could easily triple that #.:clapping:

Dad had about 275 accounts 3yr.s into the business with 2 crews out mowing. Around here its easy to have lots of accounts because of how densely populated this area is. My 20 are only about 1block x 4 blocks deep from going door-to-door & handing out flyers.

its kinda hard to get 45 accounts just like that im lucky if i get 20 accounts around here thats why i go out of my area like somtimes 20 to 30 and somtimes 50 miles.(if its worth it over 5 acres which hasnt happned yet but maybe).

With fuel charges still somewhat high, I would only drive 30 miles or more if I had a large commercial lot to do or if there was a group of customers in that area. To travel that far seems kinda pointless because what ever you make, its going right out the window awhen you factor in gas and time. JMO

Yes, I know I'm not going to get all these accounts like that. I have some lined up for next year already. I've walked nieghborhood after niegboorhood going door to door. There seems to be one large service around here that really does a bad job and I am picking up alot of there accounts latly. It seems everytime I go around a nieghboorhood I get atleast one account and I always do the best I can so I get a couple more there. It takes a good month for every ten accounts picked up I would imagin but once I get one account everyone wants me to mow. Becuse I got a couple extra yards this fall and more people called me and I just had to say no becuse I still only had a push mower :hammerhead: Exmark Viking comeing soon though. . . used but works.

Is that 1 crew or 2?

NewWave
11-14-2006, 01:02 PM
Actually around 130 weekly accounts. Right now we have one 3 man crew taking care of all of it. Our goal of 200 accounts would include two 2 man crews with 100 accounts each. Hopefully we can hit that next season. Most properties are residential. 10% are commercial and nothing being too big.

I think we are floating between 120-130 range for maintenance. Depending on guys on the crew they cut all in 3-4 days total. Been inc. since 2003, and are also full service design/build. :)

I am 18 and a freshmen in college. 2 years ago we had a drought so I had a measly 5 accounts....great year to start out! This last season I had 12 mowing accounts and did quick cuts for a local realty company, I also did alot of ladscaping for various customers. I built large retaingins walls, alot of planting of bushes trees ect... I worked at a local landscape and garden center a few years back doing all these such things. Anyways I took in close to $700 a week with 12 lawns this last summer...I mow a few large properties(my largest being my church 7 acres) I am currently working on getting 5000 door hangers made, and plan to fill up the areas I already have accounts in. I plan to tack on about 30 more residential accounts for this season, so I can save my money for school...which I am going to be a PE/Health teacher so I can mow in the summers :p

Guys, the number of accounts you have really is not important, the amount of money you make on those accounts is. Bid your jobs in a cost effective way, and always bid for profit.

My first year I landed about 45, then last year I got up to 82. If all goes well I should hit about 120 + numerous side jobs.

well that depends; cant make a living on just two accounts; and can still go broke with a hundred accounts; i saw three lawn service companys go out this past year; and one was 150 plus accounts and the other were first timers; you do have a good point but # does matter too

My goal is to make as much money as possible with the least accounts possible. You guys crack me up with all this talk of trying to reach 200 or 300 accounts. If you have that many accounts after just a couple of years you are not charging enough! In my area the biggest companies with the most accounts usually make the least profit.

I don't know what other areas charge but here we charge $.10 a square foot for grass cutting alone.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. With all these places I don't know when I'll find time to have a few beer lol.
