I have been wanting to get a good pull behind aerator for some time. Happened to be at Home Depot yesterday and just checked on rental rate for a Blue Bird TA-10 (36") aerator. The guy mentioned that it was for sale also. They were selling it for $343.20. It had maybe 4 or 5 bent or broken tines. Went back today and bought it and they lowered the price to $303 and ordered a set of 16 tines for me (they bought them). The aerator has the normal scrapes and battle marks, but looks really good. It also included six of the water jugs.
I figured it'll pay for itself after 2 or 3 aeration jobs.

I bought that same aerator brand new with the water jugs for around $1000 8years or so ago. BTW, don't use water, fill them with sand. It's heavier and you don't have to worry about them leaking or freezing up in the winter and breaking.

I bought a new one 2 years ago and used fertilizer bags to weight it down. I paid around 900$ for it new.
I sold it used a couple weeks ago for 700$.
I bought the next size larger Bluebird with 48 inch wide tines instead of the 36 inch wide tines the other unit had.
I also modified the aerator by replacing the hand crank jack used to raise or lower the wheels with a electric jack so I can go up or down without leaving the seat of the mower I pull it with!
