I'm going in for a new trimmer and looked at the Stihl line today. I was told that the 85 will take some attachments (not sure which ones). This is not the split shaft model. The price for the 80 was $260.00, and the 85 was $300.00. Do these prices sound close? Thanks for all the help.

300 for a FS85 is about right. I would recommend it over the 80.

I have both. The price for the 80 seems high. I bought an 80 about 2 months ago for $225 at my dealer. I also get the 85's for $279. The attachment I use is the hedge trimmer attachment. It works great!:) I was told that if you want to upgrade to the solid shaft on the 80, its about $25 for the solid shaft.

By the new fs83, it has more power than an 80 an 85, the only difference in the 80 and 85 is the solid steel driveshaft in the 85, the 80 has a speedometer cable. I bought one (an 83) last july and I am fixing to buy another next week, the ole 85 will be a backup for the two 83's.
