After my house was completed this summer, the lawn guy came to finished off the yard. It was done the first of July and I tried to keep it watered but there was way too much yard to do and too many 100 plus days. On the north side of the house going about three feet, the grass is very nice due to being shaded all the time. Well, the rest of the yard is terrible. A lot of dirt areas with a little grass here and there, but a lot of a clumping type grass that has long stems and a fuzzy thing on top of each stem. Some stems lay off flat with the ground and the others stick up. Don't know what its called and how to get ride of it. If I keep overseeding, will the new grass in time take over the clumping type grass stuff or what will I need to do. I'm thinking about either core aerating (going over many times to get tons of holes) then seeding or using a slit (or is it called split) seeder that Ive read about. I would like to get started this fall doing what I can and then more next spring. Does anyone have advise?
