I seen on here where a lot of guys wear steel toe boots!?!?!
I am more of a Cabela's 7" All-leather hiker guy w/Vibram sole and of course must be GOR-TEX for tha morning dew. Just curious as what the rest of you LCO's wear. Thinking of Red Wing in the future, but man it's almost a new trimmer :)

I am more of a 7" guy
Sorry, I couldn't resist. I wear both. I really like my Smith's non-steel toed work boots. They were waterproof until the started to develop holes. I have had them for about 3 years now. They are so worn in and comftorable. I wear them everywhere. I hardly wear anything else like shoes. I have also used some hikers as well, but I just like the ankle support better frok the work boots.

Here is a link of the ones I wear....

They last for me about two seasons, but I like them for the fact that they are non-insulated and all-leather. You can keep them polished and looking sharp for two seasons. Mine usually wear out from the inside out.
I have looked at a couple of vasque pair but can't find any that are all leathers. Thinking of picking up a pair of RED WING's for next season.

Not steel toe, but a work boot none the less. They are really comfortable and keep my feet dry. I love them.

I have heard too many horror stories of steel toed boots. Dropping something heavy on them can cause the steel to bend and cut into your toes, or cut them off.

Like most folks on this forum I have spent a small fortune on lawn equipment but my Red Wing boots are probably the best investment I've made. Steel toe, waterproof, and most importantly very comfortable.

After years of purchasing CATERPILLARS or Wolverines - with all the bells and whistles - @ $120.00 + a pop - One of my employees gave me (I paid him for them) a $50.00 pair of HI-TEC hiking boots, waterproof, good tread, nice and comfy and have lasted as long as the more expensive footwear. I get about a seasons worth of wear outa them.

I switch back and forth between 2 or 3 pairs of boots depending on what I am doing. Sorrell mud / snow boots for REALLY messy stuff, Redwing boots for heavy stuff, and Vasque (made by Redwing) Breeze for light duty / day to day BS.
Lawngrips.com Comfortable as tennis shoes and are steel toe, Best 120 I ever spent.

I went ahead and plopped down the cash for these as well two months ago. Absolutely fantastic so far. Comfortable, tough, and dry! I finally got just too tired of going into Wal-Mart every 45 days to buy another pair of bricks for :) $18.88:) .
I bought a pair of the 8" Lawngrips at EXPO last week. Very comfortable, first steel toes that I have worn.

Red Wings stock# 667 I think. One of the driest boots I've ever worn and real comfy. They have "DRY" and a W written on the back of them. They'll probably go at least two seasons. Money well spent!

I will agree 110% about the red wings, but no steel toes fo me. I have had a pair: waterprof, warm and the most comfortable shoes I will have on my feet, going on 15 years now, just get them resoled each year.
I took them to get resoled and they lost them:cry: :nono:
The manager of the store called me, apoligized deeply, and told me I can get any boot in the store I went there and found a pair I like( cost 150.00 new) and took them home without even paying the sales tax on them....
Now for the good part, they found my boots about 2 weeks later and told me I can have them for the price of new soles (52.00). So I have the 15 year old ones and a new pair for 52.00, no way you can beat that deal....
I would recommend red wings to anyone who has to work for a living.....

Which Red Wings did you get? I went and tried on a half dozen pair the other day and couldn't find any that were waterproof and comfortable. I'm at a loss as I was really wanting to get a pair. The pair I did find comfortable were not waterproof and were insulated which I don't want.
I found I really need more of a hiker than a boot. Flat bottom boots are slippery on wet grass and terrain and I couldn't find a Red Wing that had any good traction too them...something with a vibram sole or a hiker type sole is more for m. I really need the traction.

Ditto. I bought a pair and for some reason the right boot developed a tare. So I contacted Lawn grips and they were replaced with a brand new pair at no charge. I got them for $109.99 at PANTS in Atlantic City back in July. I got the new to the market PRO 8, 8" cut.
