I was wondering how much you guys charge your customers for installing mulch. I was just wondering so that I have a good idea of what is a good price to charge my customers. Right now I charge about $60 a yard. Is that to much or to little.

1) how much are you paying for the mulch?
2) how far do you have to move it from the yard to the job
3) how far do you have to move it from the truck to the dump area
4) are the beds already edged and weeded?

We charge $30 a yard (can vary depending on how far the beds are from the unloading zone). That only includes labor less bed prep. The cost of mulch and bed prep is added based on prep needed and what mulch is desired. A $35 delivery charge is also added.

What do you pay for mulch? Add 50% to that (average mark-up on materials.

What is your hourly wage including your overhead?? This is important!!

How long of a ride to deliver it? Are you going to deliver it? How much is delivery fee if your having it deleivered to site?

How close can you get the truck to the beds? How long will the job take you?

You have got some good answers above, but also figure how much mulch are you spreading? 1 yard? 20 yards? The higher the quantity the lower/yard your transportation costs.

I usually get about 60bucks a yard, then add the price of the mulch. This includes bed prepping and edging. Sometimes I will charge more and sometimes I will charge less depending, although 60 seems about average.

$65 yard delivered + spread. $35 per man hour for edging+weeding beds on top of that. Dark pine mulch cost me $21/yard picked up or $25/yd delivered. MDB you only charge $50/yd including edging?? yikes!!!

We get double hammered hardwood mulch around here for $7 a yard. If I can get the trailer close to the beds I will charge $50-$60 a yard depending on how many yards are needed. This charge is on the customer prepared site, if I have to weed and edge the beds the charge goes up accordingly.

I pay $21.00 CU for red mulch and would charge $43.00 to customer plus $43.25 per hour to install....It depends on the site where it goes etc. my cost would be $43.00 mulch plus 2 hrs to install
total cost to client $129.50 if they pay cash I would give them a 15% discount say around $19.00 off org price $110.50 to do this job...

When you guys say edge - do you mean one of those small 3.5HP edger deals? A shovel? Or one of those professional walk-behind commercial edgers? I am curious. It can be done with a shovel but that adds man hours.

alittle different up here, all the big garden centers advertise the mulch and all the customers know what it costs, so really can't mark up on it, but get dicount since contractor, $31 orginal, i pay $25 little mark up, they don't have to know. charge from $55-$60 a yard to install depending on how hard it would be, plus delivery costs.

The customers are very aware of what it costs here. I quit charging by the yard and charge by the job. To much shock when you tell them it will be X dollars for each yard + labor. Must be a Florida thing :D How many yards it takes is irrelevant. The customer just needs to know the price of the job.

A lot of varibles on this one as we all know. I guess if I had to average prices out overall we'd get about $ 55 a yard installed. Small jobs more and big jobs a lttle less.

I raised prices to $90/yard installed this year and did not lose one from last year. Seeing as your in the Philly suburbs you should be able to do same.

I charge $80-$90 a yard installed. I do not tell the cutomer much much per yard, I only use the formula to figure out a price for the job. I pay 25 dollars a yard.
