Could someone tell me if a Toro Briggs 6 hp personal pace mower engine has a clylinder that can be bored oversize? The engine is ybsxs.1901vc,and is a 274466 family type. Thank you Georgeharry

Either stamped in the valve cover or on a plate above the muffler is the model and type numbers, Post them. It all depends if they offer a over sized piston. But anymore it's just as cheap to short block or even replace the whole engine instead of rebuild.

does the cylinder have a ridge at the top? how do you know it's worn. maybe a gasket set,rings,valve job might get you a few more years out of it.

Exactly. Check shortblock and engine prices. And then check mower prices. May just be time for a new mower.
If its a valve then a valve job would help you out and be worth it depending on the value of the mower.
