Do you guys think it is a good idea to put out flyers saying something like ..."Sign up now for next season and get a free lawn mowing" or something like that

I would still be advertsing for fall services at this point. However, you could be prospecting for new lawn customers for next year at the same time. We are still picking up new customers for the 2007 season. Most people at this point will want to wait until next season anyway.

So if I start advertising for the 2007 season and offer a good deal you think I can start acquiring new business? I am thinking about sending out 10,000 very professional looking postcards offering a good deal on next years services along with a pre pay discount if paid by the first of the year. Do you think 50 or 100 new accounts is possible from this?

So what do you think is a feasible number for this kind of advertising? In early march I am going to be sending out 20,000 or 30,000 more postcards. What kind of numbers do you think I can expect?

Im fairly new also but isnt 20,000 - 30,000 postcards going to be fairly expensive, postage is .39 cents already (im pretty sure). That seems costly, also i was wondering if some of the vets can post some example flyers of lawn mowing, and their fall flyer. All responses to this is greatly appreciated.

Actually postage is 21cents per postcard when you do mass mailings like this. There may even be cheaper rates. I am just curious what kind of results advertising to this degree will bring.

i didnt mean to sound negative if it did, i am by no means an expert in this industry. anyway if you send out 30,000 post cards that is $6300 i would say from what i read that you will expect 30-45 full time clients. I hope this works for you it is a hefty investment.

The number everyone on here always says is 1%. I would just be happy with half that.

Also I may be a complete idiot but isn't 100 1percent of 10,000?

you are right... some people say 1 percent, but alot of others say actual is closer to 2/1000 which is .2% if I figured correctly...

if advertisement per custmer was actually 1% i would have 1% of every house in town.. lol

Sending out good ads in the spring will generate lots of calls. Of course it will be up to you to sell them the job as they will probably be calling most of the other people who send ads at the same time. Always give face to face estimates and prices -your close rate will be higher.

I do think it would be almost a total waste to advertise lawn mowing for next spring now. I could be wrong, but I'm not. :)

Id actually be the idiot...HAHA sorry i was a little sleepy after work when i was typing this. But anyway are you saying your advertising budget for next season is gonna be 4000- 6000$?? I am hoping to spend about 500 on door hangers and flyers hoping to get 30 - 45 clients.

I almost totally agree with you. I think that if you are only advertsing for next season it may not be good. However, we have been advertsing for fall services as well as next season in the same campaign. It is working quite well. It will not generate as many calls as the spring, but you can still land some accounts. If you are looking to land 50+ lawn accounts accounts I do not think that this is the time of year to do it. If you want to land 10 - 20 then I would say that it is very possible. You mentioned close rate. That is the thinng that folks need to remember as well. There is a difference between response rate and close rate.

man I usually wont offer any free mowing just for them to sign up, but that is one way I use to get people to sign the year contract without breaking down price...
