View Full Version : Who here washes their equipment??
Just curious as to how many of you keep your equipment clean. Give a vote here!
No matter how often you wash your equipment, don't do it right after use. As the spindle housings cool they will draw in water and ruin the bearings.

my truck trailor and mower get washed at least 3 times a week.
i may not have the newest around but its gonna look presentable
Frank... didn't know that ...thanks... now... we grease after each wash, so that should solve that problem right??

I use simple green if the build up is bad. The front caster wheels are the toughest to clean, especially the side of the wheel with the grease zerk and the valve stem. A little armour all and it looks new, well kinda used.
While washing you can get up close and personal with the money maker. You will be able to identify any maintenance issues hopefully before a breakdown.

Wash it, pull off trailer, engage clutch, dirty again. No thanks. If you use your equipment everyday, then it is pointless. Not to mention, exmark recommends not running water on your machine. Blow it off. The bearings are a sealed system with no grease fittings. Water tends to find its way into the spindles.

We wash at least once a week down here. Salt from the ocean intrudes everywhere. Cans even rust inside your house near the water. When we have an onshore breeze you can see the salt buildup on trucks and equipment. So wash wash wash or rust rust rust.

I don't go all out, but once a week (if not more often) I just hose off the mowers. I wash and shammy the truck weekly.
Too often, I have to clean out the deck, hopefully the Mo-Deck will eliminate some of this.;)
Just thought I would bring it to the top to give the opportunity for anyone that didn't already vote to do so.

I wash all of my mowers personally on Saturdays. A lot of my equipment never gets used by me, so if I handle the weekend clean-up, I see any problems that might have occurred during the week. I usually come up with a list for the engineer every Monday morning.

I blow off the mower after each stop, and I wash my equipment once a week usually.

We will wash all equipment as needed. Air filters and cloth catchers are cleaned daily. Equipment that can be waxed is done so once per month. If a piece of equipment gets heavy wear it will be painted once during the seaon to maintain a professional image, otherwise they are painted prior to the beginning of the season.
Cleanliness is next to Godliness, even in lawn care!

I usually do it every couple of weeks or monthly, however I haven't done it lately because so many of my places have just been so wet and muddy anyway. I know I should, as my riders both look like they were used for the mud bogs or something. I think I'll put that onthe roster for this week now that it was brought up.

Why dont you wash the "metro"? The grease fittings shouldnt stop you. If you use a pressure washer, just avoid spraying greased areas up close. If using a garden hose there isnt enough pressure to affect it.

I have a Landscaper next to my shop who quits early every Friday to have his help detail all his equipment. Washing is too confining of a defanition, he has everything hand washed and towel dried including his bobcat. the the windows are washed and the inside is swept out.
Myself I wash about every hundred hours when doing maintainence.

NO NO NO, I was saying that because I thought that the other guy said not to because then I would get water in the fittings. I do wash off my mower but is it ok to lightly spray the engine?

I wash wax and dry all of my equipment I have 2 W/B that are three seasons old and one new one they all look new
wemt in the dealer for a repair and they thaught it was the new one and coverd it under warrenty got lucky I think
I use a power washer under the deck holding if up close and holdind far to wash off the rest of the mower
some times I just use a hose but they get blower dried then hand dried and waxed
other equipment gets cleaned after use or after finishing a job
trucks get washed by car wash I contracted to clean them they can do a better job than the guys but they still have to remove the trash daily I find it cheaper to have a car wash do it because it can take 2 - 3 hours per a truck to wash wax and detail them
as far as cleaning mowers with sealed bearings
you may do so as long as you don't force the water in the seals
