View Full Version : Colored lights with white lights?

In the past, I have always used colored lights on my house and on the shrubs in front. This year, I am thinking of doing the trim of the house (one story ranch with bonus over garage) in white lights and the bushes and shrubs at the bottom in front with colored lights. I know its a matter of personal opinion, but from an expert opinion (those of you on here that do Christmas light installs) will this look good? Or is sticking with all white or all colored the way to go.

IMO house outlines should always be a solid color or all white/clear. Exception would be like a red/green alternating pattern. "multi color" lights look kinda tacky when on the house I think. The bushes would look fine being multi though, Just not too many of them.
I'm no expert though, I just put up a lot of lights, lol

We use almost ALL clear here at home, actually looks real nice usually. We use the bigger lights around the house and shed in back. Then the mini lights around the perimeter of the lawn along the driveway and sidewalk and also the basketball goal. We use red lights (i think, cant remeber for sure though) on a bush and on the "poles" on the porch. Think we may do more this year then usual, just have to wait and see how much the neighbors do, and how much it will take to one-up them:laugh: .

Great. That was what I was looking for, someone that had done it before. I think I will do the outline in clear and colored in the bushes. Tacky is exactly what I was feeling like last year when it was all color.
I'm sure its on here somewhere, but what kind of lights do you recommend for residential use? (not too expensive, but works more than one year). 2 yrs ago I bought a bunch of cheap lights, and now half of them don't work.

looks best IMO when you use clear plus another color but have groups of solid color. I did one roofline in C-7 green last year and then bushes in clear superminis, looked sharp!
