Hey everyone: I was wondering what you all use for pickup beds. I have an 8' and love it, but am considering a new truck, and many out there now are 6' (with extended cab). Do you all use your pickups for mulch, etc,, or do you have separate dumps that you use? 8 foot or not 8 foot, that is the question.

Full size bed is very important. Lets you get that extra debris and stuff in. Plus you can put a dump bed in a full size.

Most of the new ones are 6' 8" or 6' 9" anyway.
In our operation, we get the short box for increased manuverabilty (both towing and snowplowing)
We use our dumptrucks to haul mulch, soil, etc.

our two trucks have eight foot beds. my dumb dumb business partner went and and put a lock box on his, essentially reducing the bed to a short box. not a day goes by where i don't want to pull the thing and leave it by the road(with him in it). a couple feet can make a big difference.
having said that, not a weekend goes by where i don't wish i had an extended cab so i could fit 4 or five passengers.
one final thought-we mostly plow small driveways, and the longer extended cab might prove to be awkward.

I have a 2000 f-250 with a 8ft bed and extended cab. I dont use the bed much because all my my equipment and mulch goes in my trailer. I wouldnt even attemp to plow residential drives with this truck because of its lenghth. Do love the extra 3 seats in the back though!

Definately 8' bed. 6' beds are for groceries and soccer balls.

I would never waste a payment on a 6'(or6.9') bed
Unless I was just a soccer dad. You are in the lawn
care business and I guarantee you will wish they came
in 10 foot beds.I have a '98 3/4 ton Chevy for my lawn
care treatments and snowplowing. But, I have children,
so I also have an '89 Ford 150 longbed-supercab.I use
it for mowing and dirty work. I work solo and sometimes
I think of getting rid of 1, but it saves wear on both
and I always have a backup truck. Do you. Should you???
What do you do when you have 40 more lawns to cut this
week, and your truck breaks down?
