View Full Version : Are aftermarket spark plugs beneficial?
Do you replace the factory spark plugs with aftermarket ones when you buy a mower. Haven't looked at what type of plugs my kawi 25hp came with but was wondering if any specialty plus like platinum plugs or any other type would have any benefits to install.

My 20 hp Kohler came with platnum plugs and I change them each year just to be on the safe side, its cheap insurance. I avg around 300-350 hours a year on the mower and each year the plugs I take out look about as good as the new ones I install. Ive been tempted to try a regular plug.

on my mower, on my stihls. I use bosch CrNi ws6f-7547 ordered right from stihl. I don't get 1/3 of the life out of champion or ngk. imo

All spark plugs are "aftermarket."

Precious metal plugs are normally used to give longer life in applications where the electrodes wear away, or in very hot running engines. This is normally not the case in small engines. Fouling is more common in these applications. I think precious metal plugs would be a waste of money.
