Every time I am in Wal-mart, I always notice they have a 2 cycle oil, but it's labeled for marine use.
Is this oil good for 2 cycle equipment?

NO - marine engines run cooler..ie water cooled vs air cooled

Marine oil is formulated for cooler running outboard motors.Non marine two cycle oils are formulated for hot running handheld equipment, chainsaws, trimmers etc.

Yep... can't run that stuff in air cooled 2 strokes.

No, your not supposed to run TCW3 oil in air cooled power equipment. Marine grade TCW oil is designed for low rpm water cooled 2 cycle engines only. TCW oil has high flash point solvents which will leave deposits in a high heat/rpm air cooled engine in the form of sludge/gum. Air cooled 2 cycle equipment must have oil that meets ISO EGD or JASO FD standards, anything else won't lubricate properly.

I've used it on numerous occasions, but I mix all my oil real rich. I run 4 oz. per gallon. My equipment has lasted me SEVERAL years. But to answer the original question...yes it is different. I would love to know the numbers though...to know just how significant of a difference there is.

A big LCO in my area has used it for years no problems. He gets a lot of life out of his 2 cycles. I even bought some used stuff (3yrs old) so I dunno if it really is bad.
