I sold my 91 Dixie LX2001 to a young guy starting out last summer.Ive been working on it for him, since I sold it to him.He seized the motor today. It only had about 500 hrs on it,20hp Kohler Magnum.I looked and this engine is in the 1500 dollar range, and a command 20hp is in the 1200 dollar range, for a dixie spec motor.I was wondering if anyone had swapped the mag for a command, and if the mounting plates, and dimensions were close. If this were still my machine,I would do it anyway,I just dont have the time ,and he wont pay for an invloved swap.I figure he's saving 250 right off the bat,so if we need a new crank belt pulley,or to make a new mounting plate, were still ahead of the game. The magnum sounded strained at 3500+ and burned more fuel on a 50 than my 25 did on a 60",so i figured the command makes sense. This mower has a trac-vac setup that might interfere with the V style Command, the mower is at the DC dealer now,so I havent taken measurements yet.He needs this machine ASAP too,he's mowing 30 1-2 acre accounts with a 36"wb while it is down,so whatever we do,the engine has to be ordered monday AM.

500 hours isn't many hours for a Magnum. I sold one to my buddy (homeowner) that has over 2500 hours on it and I heard it running yesterday again. It sounds great.

One of the members here did this swap on a 60" Chopper. The mounting plate wasn't an issue as far as I know. You will need the new wiring harness for the Command and if it has the coolers, a new mount for them unless you can adapt the old cooler mount. Good Luck. :)

Thanks Eric, the dealer called today, and said they think the hydro pump or T-box seized, and not the engine,I bet this is going to get $$.They are milking this guy time wise.
