I know it's way too early, but has anyone used the JRCO Leaf Plow? I am already getting worried about leaves this fall and was hoping to find an easy way to do clean ups.

i bought a jrco leaf plow for my scag walk behind last year. you will kick yourself for not buying one earlier. they save so much time. i usually blow out the shrubbery and then start blowing into a pile. you can use it to push the huge piles to the truck loader or the woods. i also bought the tine rake dethatcher this spring. it works awesome too. both attachments come on and off in a second. i say you should definately get one.http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1246529&a=12315613&p=44982249&Sequence=0&res=highhttp://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1246529&a=12315613&p=44982251&Sequence=0&res=high

If you go with double blades with the gators on top, a leaf plow will be unneccessary. I went from hauling away multiple tarps of leaves on one property to a couple bags last season. Although there are those people in Jersey who think they have more leaves than anyone in the country. ;)

there is no way i could mulch up leaves here in CT. i haul away two and a half loads of leaves from my yard alone after theyve been sucked into the truck loader. nobody around here uses doubles. the only way to get rid of em is to suck em up and haul em away.

Mbd, Im with you! There is just know way in hell using even 4 blades per spindle will make the amount of leaves I get here disapear unless you mulch them once a day! After 1 week there 6 inches thick at least!

Mulching wouldn't work here either. Too many leaves and they are usually wet.
Does the jrco leaf plow keep the leaf pile together well while being pushed. Do alot fall off to the side? How far can you keep a pile together while pushing? We usually tarp and pull. You can get alot on a tarp with two guys pulling. Better to tarp and pull or plow?

hobbes, youd be suprised how well it pushes the piles. hardly any leaves fall off the pile. i can see if you have a pile in the back and want to go through an area youve already cleaned up, it may make a litte mess, but it has tines on the bottom so hardly any leaves get through. when you have a ton of leaves to move, it will save you way more time than the tarp and drag method.

mdb,
Going to order the plow, never heard of it before now.
One concern. Putting too much stress on the hydro by pushing heavy wet piles? Any chance of damage? Can you plow down driveways without damaging tines? Thinking of plowing onto tarp in backyards.
Also, are you using JRCO front dethatcher and bag for spring cleanups in place of raking?
Thanks.

okay, let me clear a few of the questions up. i bought my jrco attachments at my local dealer. most of the dealers can get access to them. i dont know if you saw the pic roscioli, but my plow is on a 48 inch scag walk behind belt drive. even wet piles of leaves dont weigh that much. i dont see how they could hurt the drive system. now as for damaging the tines. the leaf plow and thatcher both have caster wheels on the front. it comes with an allen wrench and you can set them however high you want off the ground. i use a grass gobbler with my de thatcher in the spring. works real well. the thatcher gets the dead grass up real well.

mdb,
Thanks for the replies.
Found a dealer in Ontario willing to ship.
Wants $469 for leaf plow (Canadian)
$103 for mounting bracket
$598 for front dethatcher.
plus shipping
From what I understand front dethatcher comes with universal mounting bracket.
Looks like a real time saver. Thanks again.
Doubles....yea right.

hey hobbes, if you are going to be putting it on a scag walk behind, ask if you need an extender bracket. i had to put a bracket on mine to extend the bar, so the plow could tip back during transport.

Ok, question for you plow users. I have a Toro 36" WB with a 15 Kohler. I have been told that I really don't have enough machine to do leaves in the fall, even with doubles. The town I live in does curbside pickups for fall leaves. The majority of homes are on 1/4 - 1/2 acre lots, although there are quite a few 1+ acre lots. With a BP blower and this plow to get the leaves to the street, then run over the yard to mulch anything left behind, would this be feasible/PROFITABLE? I have never seen one of these plows before, much less seen one in use, but it looks like it might allow me to do leaves when I didn't think I could. Give me your opinion!

volhunter, your idea for the plow is exactly what its made for. i use my plow once the piles get too big to blow effectively and then plow them to where i want them. these plows are great for packing leaves. if you want to put them at the curb, the plow allows you to pack the leaves tight so they wont blow all around. as for your mower being underpowered, well i have mine on a 17 hp kawasaki. all you are doing is pushing piles of leaves, so you dont need much power. it has front casters on the plow, so there isnt much weight strain on the walk behind.

Mdb,
Exmark, no scag dealers around here.
If I save as much time and energy as I think I will with this plow I'm gunna send you a big fat cheque. Wish I had seen this thing years ago.

hobbes, I'm pretty sure Kitchener Tractor is a scag dealer. Their not that far from you, I buy my Walker stuff off of them. My dethatcher was $290, I'm sure they can hook you up with the rest of the stuff cheaper than the prices you have listed. They also ship stuff.

Hobbes,
Skyway Lawn in Hamilton deals Skag. Outdoor Supplies in Stoney Creek carries JRCO. Call for pricing. Might be better than your dealer. If you get the plow, I'll be interested to hear how it works. We tarp and drag curbside. Use backpacks and Little Wonder to move the leaves otherwise.

I've used the jrco leaf plow for 3-4 years on our Dixie Chopper. It's a huge time saver and your not exhausted from pulling tarps of leaves. We push rows of leaves that are 300' long and 15' wide and 4' high, we have to make several pushes to remove enough leaves to vaccum them up with the dixie. The first few pushes build up so much that the leaf pile actually spills over the top of the plow and extends in front of the plow about 10'. The only problem when pushing large piles is when making sharp turns you will loose alot of leaves. I disagree with the one guy who said wet leaves do not weigh that much more, they weigh alot more, but the plow still pushes them, just not as many. The plow is a great investment for anyone doing fall clean-ups.

Cutntrim,
Cantoo,
Rittennhouse has the sole reights to JRCO in Ontario. Any dealers have to get it through them. The prices I got were from Rittenhouse.
Thanks,
I'll let you know how it works.

Cantoo,
Sorry didn't post this in previous reply.
You said your JRCO dethatcher was $290. Talked to Bill Kidd today, he gave me a price of $615 for the front mount. What detchatcher did you buy??

hobbes, I have the front tine dethatcher and the price was $290. Tell Bill I'll send my blond wife from Dalbet Grass Cutting down to kick his ass if he doesn't give you a better deal. It's a pretty cheap looking outfit but it works pretty good. I took off the long stupid handle and made my own foot operated lift so I wouldn't have to reach to lift it.

I am supposed to contact JRCO about selling their equipment via LawnSite.com.
If you make a purchase tell them you were referred from LawnSite.com. :blob3:

Cantoo,
$290 vs $615? I hope you're blond wife wears a real short skirt when she goes and sees him. Are we talking the same item? JRCO front mount dethatcher. All his prices were slightly higher than Rittenhouse because from what I understand he gets JRCO from Rittenhouse. Leaf plow about $50 more.

You Yanks must have a heap of durn trees up thar! I'm gonna have to make a trip up that way this fall just to look at all of em. never seen that many leaves that you gotta use a "plow".
If things are that bad then I think it's time we put our Lawnsited heads together and invent a better solution to this problem.

homer, if you wait and only do one clean up in the fall at then end, there would be over 5 iches of leaves. everyone thinks you can mulch them up, but there is no way it can be done. eveyone blows them into the woods or sucks them up with truck loaders. as to you calling us "yanks",i think the civil war is over.
