Kohler 13hp Oil buring

I have a Kohler Command 13 hp. I check the oil every day and have noticed that it is low about every day or two. The engine smokes at startup and seems to have a loss of power while running. I noticed tonight as I went to run the lines dry of gas that the muffler was smoking right off the bat. What would cause this to happen.

Just changed the oil
New air filter.

it is probably old and shot and the oil passes right through the rings did it burn before you changed the oil? if not then when you out the new oil in it became has more viscocity than the old oil. i think the solution to this problem is a over-sized piston rings or i think these motors are cheap enough you could get the same design motor but as a 17hp.
