I thought the Takeuchi TB1104 was their first attempt at a mid size machine, but browsing E-bay today I found one from what looks like the early '90s.

I didn't even realize they made excavators back then.

Takeuchi basically invented the mini excavator. I want to say they've been building them since the late 70's, maybe somebody can verify?

The North American market is usually the last to see the new products that are made in Japan. If they are selling it here than they have been selling it at home (Japan) or in other overseas markets for some time. I am not sure why that is. I would like to think that based on the size of this market that they want to make sure the product is right before it hits N. A. but who knows.

i just got my first takeuchi ex recently. on their website it says that they created the first mini-ex in the early 70's. they brought the machines over here in the late 70's. you're right scag, they essentially invented the mini ex and it shows; they're great machines.

I am trying to make the numbers work on a new TB153. I also checked the specs on a 180. My issue is it is too wide for my nearly new Towmaster trailer. I would love to have that machine though.
