View Full Version : Need a chainsaw

I bought 3.5 acres of land and have about twelve small to medium size trees on it that I need to cut down and cut up. I probably wouldn't use the chainsaw a whole lot after I get the trees cut since I live in a neighborhood and don't have any big trees in my yard.

What would be a good chainsaw for that type of use? This will be my first chainsaw, so I really don't know much about them.

Thanks

id say if you don't have much experience using a chainsaw... it might be best to call professional in to do the work... Just my .02

I agree with this. But I also have to admit that I have used chainsaws many times thoughout my life and have had homeowner model for over 10 years, however I came here to ask advice about my next one.

If you have chainsaw expereince and can use one, then you might want to look at the Stihl Homeowner Series Saws: MS170, MS180, MS210, MS230. These will be good saws and will last a long time, especially with the little work you plan to do. Go visit your Stihl Dealer and get some recommendations from them and hold a few of these saws to compare weight and comfort.

I am looking to get a MS270. Midgrade saw, plenty of power, but i also will use it several times a year, in the business and outside on my own 20 acres of land.

Thanks for the recommendations TLC. I think there is a local lawn mower shop that is a Stihl dealer. I will check them out.

There is only one way to get experience doing something and that is to do it.

What kind of chaps? I read that somewhere else too. I have some I wear on the bike, but don't know if it is the same.

I just got an MS310 myself and love it - I've even got a 20" bar and it doesn't seem to be at all under powered

If you have a HUSKY dealer in town make sure you check them out also. Best of the best.
